Hey. I'm a bit of a novice, hence the name. So say I pull a sample, maybe an 8 bar piano thingy.

I name it, "keep" it, and then i Mode>Trim.

Now I have an issue...I feel like I'm triming the sample neatly, cuz i take like an hour :)...but whenever I slice it, say, into four or eight slices, they aren't on perfectly, yet they should be, if I did it correctly, yes?

I understand that I want to trim it right at the START of the hit. When I am zoomed out, there is a clearly defined "|||||" start of the sample. Yet when I zoom in, I see a slow build up of the sample ".,:|||||" (if you will..) Where do I want to snip it...at the slow build up or at that abrupt START?

AKA how far in do I want to zoom, etc. I just want to make nice clean, smooth looping samples :)

thanks!

Technically no, even if the slices have accurate start points you have to keep in consideration your sample was taken from a person playing the piano live. There will be varying tempos throughout. Especially if there is no percussion section behind. If you are sampling classical the tempo can vary greatly depending on the part of the song you take.

Slicing smaller, pitching, time-stretching etc can be used to clean this up.

Try everything you can think of, and see how it all plays out.
You NEED to do that. Try everything you just said.

What version of JJ are you using? If you're on os2 or XL you have the added bonus of non destructive chop, which is quality because there's less of a need to commit to chops.

Try adding release when converting to sliced samples.Around 25 should fit pianos.

Swing changes the resolution point of your bar.

In a nutshell, yes.

You'll find the Swing option in the Quantize screen.

Yeah.

And by the way, God gave you ears so you could hear. Looking at sound is like listening to sunlight.
