Hey guys,

I am really impressed with JJOSXL 1.42

With each release this "drum sampler" becomes more like one of the traditional akai "S" series samplers. If you've ever used one of these you should know how capable they are of creating killer synth sounds. If you sold yours to buy an MPC (like me) you were probably very disappointed to find that the MPC had no keygroups, modulation routing, ADSR, Envelopes, and other proper tools for sound design. You're probably also happy to know that with the release of JJOSXL 1.42 we now have just about everything a "traditional" sampler has to offer, Including realtime manipulation of LFO!!!

I have created this thread to share with you some of the good information I've found online concerning sound-design with a sampler. Below are some very good links, please feel free to share what you find, or know regarding this topic.

Thanks
~Q

(that last one, you can just skip straight to the section about making "small, single cycle, tuned loops" )

I hope you find some of these articles useful, and as I find more, I will post them here.

Thanks for the links! I find the 1k/jjos to be limited in some respects when it comes to advanced synthesis. For example the filter doesnt keytrack in instrument programs...also I have had trouble getting single cycle waveforms to loop without glitches across the whole keyrange. And, the modulation options in inst programs are 1) hardwired and 2) pretty limited.

I'm not complaining though. I'd rather have the capabilities than not have them. I find the best use for inst programs is to map out multisampled sounds that I'd otherwise have to use kontakt for, and play them back essentially unaltered. But I don't think they're very useful for complex synthesis, and believe me I wish they were; jjos is still no match for the old akai racks when it comes to designing synth sounds. But at least you no longer have to have another sampler to go with it...

Great thread right here. Nym wrote a bit about using the Mp as a synthesizer a while ago. Do a search with nym and synthesizer and you'll find it. There are also links in that thread to a series of Sound on Sound articles about this topic. Great articles. Thanks for this.
