Samples Cutting Off

I've been having this issue since the day I purchased my MPC1000 6 years ago! I have the original OS (not sure what it is called). I layer a lot of samples. I will use multiple kicks, snares, hats and play multiple melodies over one another with multiple instruments (and I use separate tracks for each sound whether drums or melodies and keep mostly all of them in the same program). I record my melodies from my keyboards like samples rather than using MIDI. My issue is that my melodies will cut off once I lay the drums track over them. They will play fine when it is only the melodies and the bass all alone, but when I have added a few drums, they begin to simply stop playing after about a second. Usually, the longer melodies I play out are the ones that get cut off. I searched the forum and tried to find an answer, but haven't found one. I try setting samples to mono and poly, as well as drums. I don't know what the deal is exactly! Can someone help me in getting my samples to play through the entire loop sequence? Maybe I need an upgraded OS? I don't know! Thanks!!!

Okay, so I figured out all this OS stuff and now I have the free JJOS v.3.12. However, I'm STILL having the same issue. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can lend!

It seems like you're exceeding the 32 voice polyphony limit. Re-sampling your layered drum hits into single samples will cut back on the voices. Converting stereo samples into mono will also help. Or, if money is no object, you can upgrade to a 4000, which has a 64 voice limit.

Thanks for the reply, Ocular. Do you know how the polyphony works at all? Is there a higher value for drums rather than notes/chords and/or bass recorded? Any way to check if I'm getting close to exceeding the limit? Maybe I've just expanded my mixing a bit, but I never had this issue with the 2000XL which is also 32 voice polyphony. Hmmmm...I do thank you for your help!

Also, switching to MIDI probably won't help, huh?

1 mono sample = 1 voice, 1 stereo sample = 2 voices.
Install JJOS1 (you don't have to pay for it unless you want to save something) and use the voice monitor by pressing mode and pad 10 (other mode). This will give you an idea as to how many voices you're using up.

I'm encountering this problem too. It seems to be one of the major drawbacks of the mpc.

Does anyone know why a mono sample would still show up as stereo? When I solo my snare track for instance, I go to mode PAD 10 (other) and the voice monitor says it's two samples. I checked all the parameters, and it's not layered or set to poly.
