How to pitch

Hi, I tried to pitch up the sample but it sounds really bad, how can I do it so it will sound good? Thanx

Well if you searched forum you will find plenty about pitch. How far are you shifting the pitch? is it a short or long sample? did you change the pitch of the sample in programme window or Trim window??

There is a limit to pitch shift as it creates artifacts that make it sound like its gone through some strange FX, though this can be usefull sometimes it is a limitation. Why are you pitch shiftig a sample?? Is it for pitch or is it for tempo purposses?

try in Trim window- Edit mode- pithchshift and choose appropriate Preset. This is in the manual, did you do it this way??

Yes I did it in trim window, and I think it sounds same in every preset I tried...... before I used to make beats in FL Studio and my pitched samples were nice..... but now its horrible

So common sense would suggest pitching it in Fruity, then putting onto the MPC for sequencing purposes?

I dont think that this is the right solution....

But it is A solution, which is more than you could manage yourself...

pitch up your turntable then sample.

I dont use a turntable....

the only way is in the trim mode, i know it sounds like wank but on the mpc this is your only option.

buy those turntables. i only bought some a couple weeks back and it's the best investment for my beats so far. made some bangers!

what are you talking about?

i think some of you are confusing "pitching up" with time streching or pitch shifting (changing the length of a sample without altering the pitch and changing the pitch without adjust ing the length of a sample, respectively).

pitching up or down on your turntable is equivilant to changing the "tune" setting for a sample in program mode. just simply slows down or speeds up a sample.

time stretch/pitch shifting should really only be used if you're trying to change within about 5% or less

read the manual

i just realised this yesterday, was gonna post but you got it, mr touchy toes

the first suggestion by scoobylol was the correct one. to get the best quality pitch shifting / time stretching / whatever... you need to do it on a computer & then transfer it to your mpc.

the mpc has a weak cpu and a simple, old school pitch shifting algorithm. good quality shifting/stretching is advanced stuff & requires a programmer who really knows what they're doing and has advanced knowledge in this area. there are things available nowdays that are much better quality then what is in the mpc but they are mostly available as software for your computer.

you said you had good results in fruity loops. so do your pitching & stretching in there and then transfer the samples to the mpc. sorry, but that really is the only way. there is no 'magic bullet' to getting the mpc to do high quality pitch shifting, unless JJ is able to add something in the future, but that is gonna take some advanced coding, and would be very slow to do on the mpcs cell-phone cpu.
