tech problem: screen fade at startup

Hey, I'm having this problem with my MPC and hope that someone out there can help me out.

I just bought a used MPC-1000 from GC. It came pre-loaded with AKAI OS and I replaced it with JJOS 3.12 (it's just better). Other than that, I've done nothing to it.

What's happening now is that when I turn the MPC on, the screen is clear for a moment, but then gradually starts fading lighter until I can't see anything on the screen. This makes me feel like these emoticon faces right here .

Is it a hardware or software problem? What can/should I do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hold down the STOP key and turn the data wheel. this is how the JJ os adjusts the screen contrast.

follow sooty's advice - but the thing that concerns me is that the man said his screen GRADUALLY gets dim.
perhaps he's got a lazy right hand and it stays pushing the STOP buttn as he moves his data wheel?
i did that when i switched to JJ
got crothers sitting back like "Man this jjos is for suckers, wtf" meanwhile it was my dumbass palm doing the damage

hey, crothers. a lot of good posts from you here as well. always good to get new peeps to contribute.

the reason i suggested what i did is that i've seen this exact same issue come up here more than a few times before with people who are new to the JJ os and it is almost always the contrast setting. the only other thing that could be causing it is a hardware failure but better to start with the simplest possible solution first.

i just purchased a 2500 and I'm experiencing the same exact issues. I start it up, the screen flickers a little bit, and then it just chills at a dimmer setting. However, I just adjusted the contrast, and I'm gonna see what happens. It definitely has me concerned.
