What happened to the new pad mode?

In the very first Ver.2 video, there was a return of pad mode. Is that coming back, or was it scrapped for good? That was sometrhing I was really looking forward too.

something else: pad MODE is for free custom assignations of functions and screens to pads, I think I saw this on the 2.0 teaser videos.

Oh true I remember that. Whatever no big deal to me,,, it feels like sacrilege to use the pads for anything other than triggering samples. I don't even like using them to change modes.

From what I remember from the video I think it can be useful for those who have a died or dying button but yeah it feels a bit counter-intuitive.
