Hi everyone!

I have recently bought a second hand mpc1000 and it seems like a really nice deep machine although i have had a few annoying problems so far. The amount of info here is pretty overwhelming and i tried to search for some answers, but i gave up since it was too hard to find any existing info regarding these specific problems. I am terribly sorry if my questions have been dealt with before. So i'll try to explain what's going on.

First of all i am using the JJOS 1 version 4.99 with 128 mb ram installed. My original problem was this:

The sequencer slows down during playback and this happens when i am not even playing any really long samplses or anything. I mean the tempo just slows down and the clock seems to be somehow jammed. So it is not a deliberate tempo change or anything. It jams a bit and then quickly tries to get back to the original tempo. Well, i re-installed the os and after that everything has been running smoothly (so far). But i really can't tell whether this will happen again in the future... At the moment i am mainly using the mpc1000 as a midi sequencer for other synths / drum machines and my intention is to record samples from these machines to the mpc and then play the sampled stuff in live situation. So i really hope this problem stops existing.

The next issue (well the main issue at the moment) is when i am playing something with for example 12 tracks active the "next seq" button doesn't always work and i have to stop the machine and start again to get it working. Which is pretty annoying and absolutely not an option when playing live.

I was hoping maybe some mpc masters here could help me to some direction with this. Maybe i have dodgy ram or something? Maybe someone else has had somilar issues? Any help is much appreciated!

check the voice monitor ( MODE + PAD 10 -> GLOBAL tab ) and see if you are maxing out your voices.

check your physical MIDI connections and your settings in the MIDI screen ( MODE + PAD 9 ) and make sure you do not have some MIDI feedback or a MIDI loop going on (midi gets sent out from the mpc to an external synth, the synth passes that info back to the mpc, the mpc sends it again out to the synth, etc etc etc.... this sort of data loop will easily choke the mpc and any connected gear).

hold down the ERASE key as you start up your mpc. this will reset all of your setting to the default. always a good idea to do this occasionaly if you are having major OS glitches. make sure you make a note of all your settings before you do this (pad sensitivity settings, midi settings, etc..)

I tried the factory reset and checked that theres no midi loop. Also the voice monitor seems to be around 16 voices so i think this shouldn't be too much.

I thought maybe the problem is that i am trying to jump from a sequence of 16 bars to another one also with 16 bars. So maybe the MPC is not capable of doing this with such long sequences? I made two sequences with just 8 bars, but the same problem occurs from time to time. It seems to be totally random and i am always just hoping it won't happen again, but it always does at some point. I feel like it is somehow connected to my track mutes, since i start with just a few tracks unmuted then unmute others and try to move on to the next sequence and this is when the machine doesn't react at all to me pressing the next seq button. Weird stuff??!

Any other suggestions? Is it possible that it is not an OS glitch, but something else?

hi

this really strange,

I would try to reinstall the last akai OS and see if this also happens, and if so, and if you're pretty sure nothing else could make this bug (midi connections, polyphony, lots of effects, ram full...), I'd say the mpc is buggy by itself... :?

some could advise you to upgrade to os 1, 2 or XL, but I would not do that until I'm sure the mpc is not broke, because once JJ OS is installed, it is bound to this unit, and if you have to swap for another one you loose your os "licence".

good luck mate, hope you'll get this sorted

cheers

I would say, you got to many events going on. Have you been using q-links in that sequence? Take a look into Step edit. Does everything's awrite in there, when lag occurs? on every track?

I think i got rid of the lag... hasn't happened for a while now. And it did happen on all tracks. You know, things slow down and speed back up. Maybe i had something weird going on, but i am pretty sure i wasn't doing anything too advanced for the unit to handle. The next seq problem remains though...

The problem with replacing the unit is that i got it second hand and don't have any warranty left. Maybe i should just e-mail akai and see if they have a solution. I don't care if i have to get the jjos again since it's still pretty cheap compared to a new mpc. Maybe i will go back to my old setup without the mpc, but it feels stupid to have a bad unit lying around. + I really don't want to sell a bad mpc to anyone.

Just have to figure out a way to either replace the unit or make it miraculously work again.

Thanks for all the help guys!
