This KIDxSIC = KiDxSiCARUS. HAD TO CREATE A NEW I.D

ANYways i inherited a mpc 1000 runnin jj os 3.12. Shes pretty beat up. The biggest problem on the surface is the jog wheel is hella unresponsive (but usable with patience) and the mode button is half way underneath the casing, but still pressable.

The problem im having is that sometimes right after i hit play start or rec play start n start banging pads it causes the sequencer to skip or sometimes start over!?!!? And it does it in sync with me striking the pad. like hitting the play start button over n over again for an intro but with a pad! Also the qlink sliders seem to respond late. i have tried them both on note on and real time.

Whats up with this? is this fixable by me? i wanna upgrade to the JJ OS2xl but i dont wanna waste my money if i cant fix it. Id rather sell it n put that towards a new mpc 1k

your thoughts anyone?

well, that's your problem right there. based on all you described about this one your best bet is to junk it and buy a new one.

never buy a banged up mpc unless you like throwing your money away. you can find plenty of good condition used mpcs on craigslist / ebay.

Open it up and make sure there are no switches stuck down or really busted up. Have a poke around and check that everything looks physically sound. Obv be very careful.... and make sure it's unplugged.

The fact that it restarts the sequence every time you bang the pad may be due to something loose inside, or a switch/button being held down... or.... well... like I said take a look inside first.

Thanks Jimmie. I opened her up n everything looks ok on the Right side. However im kinda leary to disconnect the pad sensors from the board n inspect it. It has the new pads and the pad upgrade and it was installed by VST. maybe they did something wrong? anything i should look out for if i can properly get the pad sensors off?? THanks again yall

I've not taken up the pad sensors myself and I wouldn't want you to break it, but if it were mine I'd take it to bits (lol) and check the tracks on the pcb's (there have been a few cases of people discovering hairline cracks), etc, whilst being uber careful and making sure I was grounded, etc.

LMao! So i found the problem. it was not mechanical

First off i repaired the broke button that was recessed in under the casing. I bought a few more replacement buttons from MPC stuff (fast shipping!)

The problem is the jog wheel. i need to replace the rotary encoder. I knew this was dying but what i didnt know how this was going hand in hand with my sequence skipping as i would hit the pads. I would have the cursor on the sequence time at the very top. And when i hit the pads with a little force the MPC would shake a little causing the jog wheel to scroll back to the 1 or back 1 bar

so with that said. if i replace the top case ($50 on mpc stuff) and the rotary encoder then she'll look brand new. New Pad upgrades, maxed ram and all.

I see no one can find the rotary encoders anywhere tho. It appears every website has been out of stock for the last year :!: I gues i could replace the whole PC board?? Then throw JJ OS back on it?

What yall think? Keep and fix her or sell her with the jog wheel problem?

Before you go and replace the circuit board, (which as far as I know is the only way to get an encoder at this point) buy some DeOxit and try that. My Encoder was skipping a bit, albeit not as badly as yours is behaving I'll admit, but, a couple squirts of DeOxit fixed it right up. Saved me a lot of money. Worth a shot.... and deoxit is handy to have around. Should be able to find it online. Ask google.

Thanks Patchen. My local radio shack carries some. ill try it out. But i dunno fam. My encoder is pretty bad. When i open up the mixer screen and select a pad the pad automatically turns down halfway and slowly turns down by itself!!

I'll let you know how it goes

I sprayed some deOxit on the encoder and one tact switch. Left it on for 5 minutes. It definitely helped the tact switched. Fixed it completely actually. And it helped the scroll wheel a little. Still a little spotty. Im gonna spray a little more on and leave it on for a few hours to see how it helps.
