After looking at the JJ OS comparison chart one last time to make sure there weren't any features I needed so I could just settle with an MPC500 or 2000xl, I noticed that in the newest JJ OS, he added the ability to switch sequence with the footswitch jack!

This is what I've needed in a sampler for yearssssssss. Despite being kind of bummed I have to save up for an MPC1k now, I am excited to know that the functionality I've always needed now exists!

yeah yeah i keep on going back in forth about what i want. my money is first going towards a blofeld and controller so i can start learning synthesis and then i'll have another month to save up for an mpc. i could get an mpc500 if i'm impatient within a week, but but i think i need the jjos.

The Blofeld is a nice synth. I saw them for $200 cheaper than normal on Nova Musik's site towards the end of '09. Then the price went back up. But still worth the money. I never bought one. I ended up experimenting with the Largo VSTi and love using it as much as possible. Waldorf always make good hardware and software.
Do you know all about the License SL Sample Option on the Blofeld?

Since this option came about, I've been wanting it even more.

But anyway, get that Blofeld first and do some research on controllers. There's a lot of topics in the MPC-Studio Environments forum that may help you decide what's best for your setup. But also, feel free to discuss it in this topic, since there's a lot you can do now with the JJ OS and a MIDI controller. That's something to take into consideration before making any purchases. Feel free to PM me as well if needed.

Thanks for the response man. I noticed in the new version of JJ OS that the mixer and fx are CC map-able so I was planning to get an Axiom 49 since it has pads, knobs, and sliders (I'm eventually going to add a Roland SP555 for fx to my setup, so maybe I'll trigger those pads with the Axiom pads).

Any other suggestions?

Also, Novamusik has this deal: http://www.novamusik.com/search.aspx?ty ... d=21&lbs=8
which includes the SL add-on and it's 50 dollars less. They also have an open box Blofeld for 475 which I'm leaning towards because then I could grab a controller and the Blofeld for about 700.

I'm not interested in the SL add-on too much at this point since I'm fairly new to synthesis (besides Reason synths), and the Blofeld has such a deep engine that I want to learn that shit on it's own for now.

I've been using an Axiom 49 since 2006. Works nice with OS2xl as well as my DAWs. So I'd recommend it considering it's got all you need and it's built well.

As far as effects are concerned, it's not worth buying the SP555 (unless you're looking to use it's sampler as well). Maybe a rackmount multi-effects processor would give you more for the money. It all depends on what effects youre looking for, as one may have what the other doesnt.

$475 for an open box Blofeld sounds nice. Take a chance. If it's too beat up, you can always return it.

word. yeah, an sp555 is a little overpriced, i just had one before and really liked the live looping feature for performing live. i'm thinking maybe a kp3 would be a significantly cheaper and better investment though. i've always wanted an electribe esx-1. REGARDLESS, i'll have lots of time to figure out what i want since i'm still saving up, but i'm glad to know the axiom is a good companion piece.

CUSTOM SPLASH SCREEEEEEEN !!!! worth the 123$

I'm also looking for a good FX unit, but I decided I got the best one using my lappie+ableton live+controllers setup as a giant mixing console and FX unit for the mpc... bigger than a FX unit/rack, but so much capable...

I also had interest toward the KP3, but I definitely think that a DAW+good plugins is really much more open and versatile, and powerful. But you'll need a good soundcard with lots of inputs if you want parallel FXing for several mpc tracks. Problem is that it is far less a traveller approach...

cheers
