Slicing to Pad Banks B, C, and D

Last weekend, I watched my friend use his MPC 1000 (JJOS) and that got me wanting one. But there's something odd that I noticed which I can't find any information on.

When he sliced the first sample, he was able to auto-assign the 16 resulting segments to the pads in Bank A. Awesome. But then to slice a second sample to the next bank, he had to individually assign each sample to a pad, one at a time. Very tedious, and he swore there's no easier way to do it.

What's up with that?

Is he using an outdated version of JJOS, or just unaware of how this is supposed to be done?

Also, is this an issue with other non-JJOS MPCs (like the 2000xl)?

when you chop (please don't call it slicing, that's an insult) a sample, you can create a new program and automatically assign the chops to the program. But there is no way to chop a sample and automatically assign the chops to an existing program.

The solutions:
1. manually map the samples (literally takes about 2 seconds per sample - don't see what's so tedious about it).
2. use the COMBINE function to join the two samples together, then chop them up.
3. just use multiple programs.

would you mind elaborating a bit on how you would use multiple programs?

would you just chop the first sample to a new program, save it, and then chop the second to another new program, then load the first program onto the second pad bank? i'm trying to figure this out from reading the manual but it's tough to wrap my head around without having the actual machine in front of me.

Basically when you chop the sample you can apply different settings and lengths etc save. when you are making the song or whatever, you just assign the programs with all the different settings.

The MPC 1000 can have 64 or more programs (depending on which OS version you use) in memory. Each program gets assigned to a separate track. You can't divide or combine programs, if you want to do that, then you have to do it manually like your homeboy is doing. So basically:

chop sample 1 -> create program 1 -> assign it to track 1
chop sample 2 -> create program 2 -> assign it to track 2

etc.
