any thoughts?

looks like midi notes can access not just buttons but also the different mode screens (which is probably more use to me)

edit : scrap that last comment - midi notes to track mutes possible too! yeah

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/button.htm

this is cool to have, but not sure it's something i would personally use very much.

as it is, os2xl already has TONS of shortcuts for getting to various screens and modes. hitting MODE + PAD gets to be automatic after awhile.

track mute is cool, but you have to hold the key down to keep the track muted. and the track mute screen is pretty fast and easy as it is.

i guess i'll just have to wait and see on this one.

The recent midi enhancements are cool but I'd love to see some additional audio manipulation features.

sooty- depending on the midi controller you can set it to toggle between note ons and note offs,-- but i suppose that might not be too different from a button which sends 127/0 to the track mixer for that track. One thing that comes to mind is if you have track volumes set differently the mute keys dont have to be readjusted for each song, wheras the track mixer 127/0 buttons would have to be.It might save polyphony too?

one thing id like is a way of switching effects presets via midi. I recorded a video at the end of last year tinkering wih track mutes to do this diy style, just never got round to posting it.

another thing id like is midi control of the input thru filters/ fx sends etc.

What comes to my mind is it can be useful for those who have dead buttons or are using pad controllers (so they can switch MODE externally)

I have a friend with a 2k5 which jog wheel is dead. It could be cool if it was externally controlable too.

Whoa.

Just think of all the ways you can now control the MPC from an external DAW. This opens up a lot of doors.

you could control your mpc 100% from midi controller, it looks like.
except power on/off.

this is wild. also i'm trying to think of additional cool DAW/laptop stuff you could do with this.
definitely nice to control mutes from main screen.
this definitely looks like the start of some more serious external midi control over MPC functions
hopefully we'll see more multitimbral CC control over PGM properties soon.

Hmmm, just off the top of my head:

you can achieve manual sync (at different time signatures perhaps?) by mapping the transport buttons and the tap tempo.
assigning track01-track16 buttons and bank buttons would be useful for live performance
you could use the cursor U/D/L/R and datawheel L/R to record automation for any parameter

I use my MPC to control and automate functions in Ableton via MIDI mapping. So this makes sense to me on that level, because now I can do the same in the other direction... To be honest, it seems like these functions would be most useful in the context of using the MPC as a multitimbral sound module, which is something I don't do as of right now, so I don't know how much use I'll get from them. However, it also seems to be one of those features that, when I find the application for it, will be like 'eureka!'

to make this feature complete, we would need a CC to Qlink option...and the AFTER buttons on the MPC.
if we truly want to be able to replace the MPC control with MIDI control.

wow. and if the whole MPC graphic to VGA thing gets sorted out, you could stash your MPC like one does with a PC and control/monitor the whole thing using peripherals.

mp3 you could also use your DAW to automate recording punch ins/outs on your MPC.

What would be the point of even having the mpc once you reach this stage?? :?

not having to worry about the most fragile parts for the MPC - buttons, data wheel, sliders, for one.
apparently the rotary encoders for the MPC1000 are getting hard to find.
using arduino + any rotary encoder (including the ones inside any PS2 mouse) you could build a reaaally nice feeling data wheel controller using the new features.
a larger screen (vga, monitor) would be awesome just for the sheer size of the information. i sure hope that materializes.
