Hey all,

Yes i've RTFM ha but I'll try to explain my set up & the problems i'm now having simply!

* I am a live drummer currently running x3 Roland PD8 trigger pads w/ Roland TMC6 Midi Converter to MPC1000 last few years with little hassles:)

* Now, i've just picked up this amazing drum called MANDALA V1.0 (Used by Danny Carey from TOOL - see links)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prjME-7XFuM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt87SjSH ... re=related

* It has a brain w/ presets that has MIDI OUT only! Same as TMC6 Converter!

* I am now using both MIDI IN 1 & 2 - TMC6 (Midi In 1) & Mandala Drum Brain (Midi In 2). Still with me? lol

* Problem is my MPC samples i trigger from my PD8 pads are now getting picked up by the Mandala drum when i hit that? Its reading the same midi notes whilst i play along with the Mandala brain presets. I can see this on the screen when i hit both pads back and forth and get the same samples coming through my headphones???.

* I made the MPC Slave (2) to the Mandala drum but still the same problem?? I tried to change ACTIVE Track from ALL to say Channel 1 but that cuts out the PD8 pad samplers etc.

* I am unsure about selecting Midi clock or Midi Time Code and MMC off or on??

* Yes I am not an expert on MIDI obviously so if this makes sense to someone out there to help me avoid any further issues it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all, amen ha:)

one way of solving the problem would be to put the samples on pads which have different note numbers to the notes that your drum module is responding too - assuming that you drum module presets are not covering the whole range of midi notes.

also have you tried assigning the PD8 to say midi channel 1 and the mandala to midi channel 2 - then set the active track to receive on midi channel 1 only.

also midi sync/clock, slave, mmc etc is irrelevant to your problem.

also why does the mandala have to be connected to the mpc if you only want the PD8 for sample triggering?

1. Press Mode->Pad 9 (MIDI/Sync). Press F1 if necessary.
2. Set Soft Thru to AS TRACK.
3. Set a track to send to the MIDI out where the Mandala is connected (bottom right hand corner of the MAIN screen). Set that track's Program of OFF.

When you wanna trigger the Mandala (from the PD8, the MPC's pads, or the mandala itself), switch to that track. When you wanna trigger an MPC program, switch to another track and set Program to something besides OFF.

Hey all, update!

Ok

(1.) I can still get sounds out of the Mandala drum by running 1/4" stereo cables to just my mixer and NOT using the Midi Out on the brain to my MPC whilst still playing my PD8 pads via MPC and still hear ALL the sounds, so that's a positive.

(2.) Here's the breakthrough - I went through the active track receive channel 1-16. I could only hear mandala sounds and no PD8 Pad/MPC sounds until i got to Channel 10. The MPC stopped reading all the random Mandala midi notes when i hit it, so i can now play both without conflict:) ha wow another positive!

(3.) Ok so now i'm feeling super confident lol, what i am now hoping to achieve is use some of my own samples from my MPC for the Mandala instead of just the presets provided and not have midi notes conflicting?
Achievable?? hmm??? This might happen if i turn down the internal brain volume of the mandala to avoid the preset sounds and just use mixer volumn and play MPC samples? However i think it'll conflict like before? will keep at it.

Cheers again for the replies and tips:)

Peace.
