Hello,

I am using the MPC 1000 more and more in a live situation and was hoping to get some feedback on how reliable it is.

My band is playing 500-1000 person rooms so it's really important that I can trust the unit. We are starting to introduce more sequencing, and I am starting to use the unit as my main brain for keyboards. It would be a tragedy if the MPC crashed in front of a thousand people.

Can I trust the MPC live? Or do I need to get a back up?

Thank you for all of your experience!

Eric

I don't know if anyone can answer your question better than you can. I've had four crashes in four years. But I don't use my MPC in the same context that you do.

the odd person gets problems/crashes and reports/moans about it here, but if you don't get them at other times its pretty unlikely it will happen in a live environment completely out of the blue

for what they cost 2nd hand I'd just get an old beat up one off ebay or something and duplicate all your files onto it an bring it with me on gigs, it's not like they're big and heavy are they?! an I think you'd have more fun with your mind at rest knowing that your backed up. Chances are though nothings gonna happen, I'm using my mpc 30 hours a week at the moment and the only issues I get are when loading or saving to and from the hard drive but I just leave it for a few mins an she always sorts herself out.

enjoy your gigs, 1000 is a LOT more people than it sounds! max I've played infront of was 300 and I got scared just from that, but that was dj'ing and using vinyl so nothing really to go wrong..

crashes happen when you do certain combinations of things , if youve practiced what your doing you should know whether or not you will cause it crash. the early days of os2 betas were pretty crashy - 0s2xl is stable as far as im concerned.

I have just reported a bug to jj that ive been experiencing with dropped notes/exagerated durations when recording and moving between tracks and pad banks.(which i do quite a lot on certain songs)It was really unusual - jj couldnt recreate it till i sent him my project files. The bug is intermittent ...and ive got some work arounds too, and i'll be using the mpc for my next gig on monday despite it.

my opinion is you have to avoid reaching max polyphony, avoid too quick gestures (quick internal navigation i mean)
i gigged with a band with the 1k with jjos2xl and nothing ever went wrong (except me once pulling out the jacks from the main out accidentally :D )
