So Coz told me about NDC last week or the week before, and I finally uses it last night. All I can say is wow. I loaded up some big ass sample I got from who knows where and chopped it with NDC instead of the regular way and that ish is great. It saves so much memory and makes loading time so much faster since it only has to load the one sample instead of x amount of samples. Same thing with a break. Chopped it with NDC and again, loading it plus the big ass sample took a ridiculously short amount of time to load.

I just want to say **** Akai. If JJ can make this happen along wight the rest of the features, in a relatively short period of time (it's been like 4 or 5 years since JJ os has drooped right?). Why couldnt they do it for their own machine? That's horrible business.

Ok, rants over.

Peace

Yeah I've been on the JJ OS since the beginning and I haven't really tried NDC. I had no idea until now that it's even better than I thought. Thanks! 8)

i wish i used NDC more. i use crossfade loop on every non-drum sample i chop so NDC doesn't appeal to me for that reason, but in every other way i love the possibilities. i especially like the qlink-to-chop option.

Crossfade loop sounds mostly crappy on non-sustain sounds :-( I miss the ability to set a curve of the crossfade (not only the length).....
btw. what do you mean by "qlink-to-chop"?

I use crossfade now too. But NDC has some specific purposes. I am still figuring it out, but I can see where chopping a large sample to be used as a melody is useful. Also, chopping drums breaks seems to work great, if you don't need to edit samples. I chopped a break and wanted to reverse a kick, which doesn't seem to be possible with NDC, but even if you chop the break/sample with NDC, and chop a section which needs to be edited and discard the rest, it would save a lot of memory. Just a thought...

Yeah, as soon as I figured out how to use NDC, I immediately went searching for the manual. It took me a few minutes to figure out the workflow for it since it's kind of odd compared to regular chopping, but once you figure it out its pretty quick and easy.

its a little late for april fools day aint it? wtf planet have you guys been on? do you even own mpc's? WTF.

glad you found NDC but you been sleepin on that shit for a while.

all jokes a side
its the best for those big samples. ive sort of changed my workflow to sample the entire song now instead of just chunks. that way i can use NDC and go back and get more if i need to instead of having to remember what vinyl i got the sample from, etc.

also, the workflow i use now is:

load up huge sample, turn NDC on, create new program, go directly to pgm mode, use shift to select all samples, turn all chops to mono, turn all chops to use mute group 1. then i go back to trim mode, hit program button, adjust my chops in program mode so i can have the pitch effect the chop while i adjust start and end points. i should do a video, its mega fast and insane chopping abilities.

yea, u should do a video.. im a jjos1 user, and i just tried jjos2xl yesterday i think im gonna buy it.. i love the fact there is a cursor that scrolls through the wav. also the NDC workflow is a bit weird, and slower then my scrub and chop method, but i can see myself getting use to it..

There is a reverse button on the NDC interface when you do the chops if you want to preview it. And in the program mode you can change the direction of the sample (FOR/REV).

I requested this feature for a while, when JJ finally added it a while back I was lovin' it. I really like all those Non Destructive features, chop, for/rev, mono/stereo, they're extremely useful and save a lot of time. NDC is one of the main reasons I love the JJ OS, sometimes I use some other function that is not available while in NDC mode but 9x's out of 10 I use NDC, it's a great feature.

Yeah since it was released and improved in OS2, I never looked back and I'm not using regular chop anymore. Concerning the REVERSE Fkey I was thinking maybe it could be more efficient if it was an ON/OFF tab. I found the way it is implemented now (having to keep the fkey pressed) a bit strange.

the most revolutionary ndc feature for me was addition of stereo to mono in the program screen...-i love this feature

yeah, me likes that one too. wish it had L+R vocal cut. someone else suggested NDC bitconvert, i thought that was pretty ill idea.

i always thought it be cool that in pgm mode, right next to chop number, you could see 2 columns: "chop start" and "chop end", and you could adjust the values right there from pgm mode for the currently selected chop. probably need to abbreviate, and you wouldnt see the whole number/value, but when you started to turn the jog wheel, a dialog box would popup with the whole number and close when you stopped turning.
