Hi,

Apologies if this question has been answered before, I couldn't find anything relevant with a forum or web search.

Using an MPC 1000 and JJ OS2 1.35

I've got an Alesis DM10 and two realhead drum triggers connected to the MPC via MIDI. I can load sounds into the pads, configure the DM10 to send the right MIDI notes and play the samples on the pads via the triggers.

If I record the sequence coming in, the velocit of the notes is recorded and the sound of each sample on playback depends on how hard I hit the trigger.

However when hitting the triggers without recording the MPC just plays back the sample at the same volume no matter how hard I hit the trigger.

I want to use the MPC as a hardware sampler in a live band set-up but how do I get it to play the samples and follow the velocity sent over MIDI by the DM10?

TIA

hya, sounds like fun, it could be a few things,

1, the Velocity settings of the program/inst, (i think '100' means there's no variation in playback on receiving varyied velocity playing - so they always play back at full level). check the online manual. u might need to set the program to be more velocity sensitive.

2, a bug, try using a keyboard instead of the real drum trigger pads, see if there's velocity values getting through. if nothings happening until u play the recordings back from the mpc - but not WHILE u play them in, it could be some weirdness.

what os u using? i might try a trouble shoot

Thanks for the info - no. 1 sounds promising, I'm a MPC newbie so I don't think I've seen that setting - I'll check that out this evening.

No.2 - I'll hook up a keyboard and see what happens. I guess the DM10 might be sending note volume instead of velocity or something wierd. I guess the best thing would be to hook the DM10 up to my computer and see exactly what MIDI messages it is sending.

MPC1000 using JJ OS2 v1.35

I'd be very surprised if this is not solvable. Thanks for the help.

yeah its the feature named "VELO" in the "AMP" page of the "PROGRAM" edit screen.

100 means that no matter what the played in velocity is at, a pad set like this will always play back at highest velocity (127).
and a value of 1 is the full velocity range response (1-127).

edit: in fact its actually setting the lowest possible playback velocity. so anything played at a velocity below the value in "VELO" , that note will play AT this value.

its like a velocity compressor.

check these settings. but if u say that it only plays velocity properly AFTER its been recorded, sounds almost the reverse of what i would have expected.

i've no idea why JJ set the default to 50, 'cos, personally i'd expect full range response on start up......

its a bit confusing in the same way that many JJOS things are, but its a simple enough situation once you've used it for a while.
