OS2 XL + ABLETON + APC20... Tips and tricks anyone?

Last night I finally fixed my DAW. I needed to replace the processor. So now I'm up and running stable (so far), and I've had an APC20 sitting on my desk since I bought it over the winter. I dabbled in Ableton's lessons and I'm back to refreshing what I learned several months ago. But I'm curious as to who's got anything worth sharing as far as getting the most of the APC20 and OS2 XL.

I have had the 2500 + Ableton combo.... Not familiar with the APC, but I have a MPD32 in the mix.... too much for me.. .I am a simple fella.


Out of the 3 the MPC got the least of the love....

I am solo with Ableton now.. Love it-- not a fan of version 8, but I love 7.

If you ask me now, all three still seem like overkill.... unless MPC is strictly for sequencing/drums... APC is for some vst/efx in Ableton or other software-

Thanks for the reply. I'm also using an Axiom 49. But that's not complicating anything. I know there's been some scxripts written for the APC40 and possible the APC20 which adds more functionality to the units. Hopefully there's something out there that'll let me use all the buttons and sliders on the APC20 to control a few things in the JJ OS. Someone's gotta be writing some new code for that sooner or later.

I've been reading your other posts and thinking theres some way to really get the APC20 to work. I copped mine for maybe $130 on Amazon over the winter. Can't beat that and it's a really nice controller. So it just may be an extremely valuable tool as far as working with XL.

how many buttons does it have? 40? because that's the number of commands you'll potentially have at your fingertips. more if you use a couple of the buttons as "bank" buttons (assuming we can come up with 40+ commands - (hint, we can))

i'm about to hijack your thread slightly but it is something you might like.

i've always liked the idea of making a song out of just 1 sequence, one with a ton of bars.
but the problem has been navigation
navigating to different sequences in jjos2xl is easy and extremely fast. navigating 1 big sequence, however, takes a lot more clicking and scrolling. but the benefit is that in grid edit you get to see what would otehrwise be hidden away in other sequences - pickups, for instance, or drum fills that come in right before the new sequence would otherwise start!

so, why not use macros to navigate one long sequence? it'd be extremely easy to do. different macros would set your sequence loop points to different parts of your one sequence song...

"part one" = bars 1-16
"part two" = bars 17-32
etc

I like this idea a lot!
