octave buttons

ok, so I'm wondering if there is a way to access midi notes below c_1 with the mpc pads?

the specific problem i'm running into is that I've created an inst program (bass patch) and have a sample that is c_0 assigned up to c_1, the c_1 sample spans the rest of the notes.

If i had a midi keyboard connected to my mpc i'd be able to play the notes c_0 to b_0 ...........however, I want to play these notes with the pads (i currently don't have a midi keyboard where i'm at).

is there a way for me to play notes below c_1 with the pads? if not, i think it would be cool if we had some kind of octave buttons built in jjos.

None that I've found. I had to make a .pgm for MPC control of Beatmaker2 the other day, and BM2 has 8 banks, MIDI notes C_0 to C_127 was all that were available.

I think JJ would have to add dedicated buttons like you suggested. Maybe Nym knows something we don't.

cool, so i'm not crazy. I mean, i know for the specific case i mentioned above i can work around and shift the original tuning of the samples, but then I started thinking the octave buttons would be nice adition for controlling other gear like you mentions.

off topic, but downloaded beatmaker2 and am feeling it. i think there is some things i obviously miss after being spoiled with jjos, but i can mess with it for sure. I haven't decided to drop quid on an ipad yet, but I'm still messing with BM2 and going to try and make some complete mpc style sample beats.

You picked up BM2, dope man. They just updated it, so you picked the right time, it's a universal app and looks great on an iPad. True it's not JJOS, but that much? On a phone? Awesome.

You can change the midi out note of a pad but the midi in note for the pad is fixed.

think there may be a workaround , but only for drum programs. from the multi timbre section of the manual:

"NOTE 24-35 in case a program is DRUM is converted to NOTE 88-99.

Therefore, when NOTE 24 is received, the sample currently assigned to NOTE 88 (PAD D05) is pronounced.
Also when the event of NOTE 24 currently recorded on the sequence is played back, the sample currently assigned to NOTE 88 (PAD D05) is pronounced.
In the case of NOTE 35, the sample currently assigned to NOTE 99 (PAD D16) is pronounced."

Ok, what about a switchable Pad Bank / Octave mode for Inst programs?
The options being the normal mode, where Pad Bank buttons would work as usual, and a new Octave mode, where Pad 1 would always default to a C note when switching octaves (or even better: customizable - so you could choose any note for Pad 1).

In Octave mode Pad Bank buttons would work, for example, like this:
A: 2 octaves down
B: 1 octave down
C: 1 octave up
D: 2 octaves up

To transpose all pads by smaller amounts:
(hold some button) + A: 2 steps down
(hold some button) + B: 1 step down
(hold some button) + C: 1 step up
(hold some button) + D: 2 steps up

And: (hold another button) + push any Pad Bank button to return to middle C octave (or to a customizable default octave).

The Octave mode would make the MPC pads to behave more like a small, 2-octave keyboard controller. It would be a lot easier to actually play multi-sampled instruments on the pads.

Thats what im talking about!!! good ideas. I like the idea of turning on "octave mode" then the pad bank buttons automatically react as you mentioned above. that way you can hit them on the fly while playing, navigate around, go in and out of pgm, change tracks, etc. and still be able to use the pad bank buttons as octave buttons. we'd also need some indicator on the main screen showing how much you are transposed.

could this also work for drum pgm too?

I wanted JJ to add a qlink for transpose - didnt get a reply one way or another
