hey guys,
having now my first mpc since some days, mpc 1k w/ jjosxl 2.2.7
it works out quite well but some things i did not find yet while i was looking for it:

1) i have a midi keyboard connected per usb to my pc daw (ableton), and the the midi out from the keyboard connected to the midi in of the mpc. i want to record midi notes into my mpc to sequence them later into ableton. i thought i make a midi track on the mpc and press record, but that does not record anything? how do i go about this?

2) when i press mode + pad13 (seq edit) i can copy a track from seq1 to seq2, e.g. but what if i want to copy the whole sequence, all tracks with programms? its a bit tedious doing this track by track and then assign again the programs..

thanks in advance - the jjos website is such a mess... so difficult to read his manuals  :?

sequence copy:
you should highlight the sequence name with the cursor and press the window button. A menu will come up that will ask if you want to copy, delete or cancel. Hit copy and specify what sequence you want the seq copied to and your done.

Connect your midi keyboard (midi out) to mpc (midi in). Create a MIDI track. Set the "MIDI" field (pic below, labeled "Output MIDI field") to match the port which u used. DONE!

Place the cursor in the Sequence field on the main screen and press Window. The sequence list will appear and an option to copy sequence is available (F5).

okay the sequence copying is working fine.
i have a problem with the midi recording though. of course i tried that, midi-kb out to mpc in (1 or 2). now in this MIDI field in can only choose 1A-16A or 1B-16B, A and B obviously being my MPCs outputs. I tried all of them, but nothing is recorded. how are the input ports called inside the OS? or do I have to active them somehow in the midi setup screen..?

oh yeah sorry, answered without checking there. A & B are MIDI outputs, meaning that you can control your MIDI device from MPC. 1-16 are different MIDI channels for that port (your external device can work on any of those channels).

So basically when you just hook your midi cable to either port 1 or 2 you should be able to record MIDI in from your keyboard. No need to activate anything or such.

Hit REC+START and play some notes on the keyboard, if these get recorded, then all's good. Now if you have a MPC program set for that track then it'll play those sounds.

If you're still having problems, I can write you a step-by-step guide on how to go about this, shouldn't be this difficult.

yes, so of coursed i tried that as well... i am experienced with midi usually, but the thing is, nothing arrives to my 1k. i even dont see any events in the midi/sync monitor screen.

so a detailed explanation with channels would be nice.

what I tried:

keyboard midi out to either 1 or 2 midi-in mpc
new track, tried both "drum" and "midi" type of track
set to loop 2 bars
press REC + PLAY
start playing on the midi keyboard
nothing gets recorded, no matter what i set up in MIDI screen or what midi out channel i chose for the track...

Well... are you sure your keyboard works that way? I seem to remember reading somewhere that some MIDI controller keyboards can't send data simultaneously from MIDI out and USB out jacks...
