this is all conceptual and i don't know if it would work on the programming side.
speculate with me:

in jjos1 and akai os, there was the option to set note variation to be controlled by Velocity.
this was an excellent function and i've missed it since os2.
unfortunately (and i am making an assumption here) i feel that in jjos2xl we are pushing the ceiling of "simultaneous parameter utilization."

so my idea is this: rather than re-implementing the velocity to note variation feature, why not just use what we already have to simulate it?

ie, the ability to set velocity to control the RECORDED note variation parameter (which can be viewed in step edit/DRUM grid) and the strength by which it is applied.

so, if you have it set to ATTACK and record 3 values at velocities of 1, 65, and 127, the ATTACK parameter in STEP EDIT would read something like 100, 50, and 0 respectively.

any thoughts on this?

this sounds confusing. maybe i'm not sure exactly what you mean.

what i would like to have is the ability to reassign the velocity after the fact. meaning that at any time after you've recorded your performance, you could go into the PROGRAM SCREEN and assign velocity to affect different things: LEVEL, TUNE, ADSR,FILTER,PITCH ADSR,PITCH DEPTH,LFO RATE,LFO DEPTHS, FX SEND LEVELS, etc...

maybe you could do this via a separate VELOCITY MOD (VMOD) tab in the PROGRAM screen. or maybe you could just put the cursor over any parameter and hit the WINDOW key and a window would pop up that would allow you to enter the amount the velocity would affect it.

the bottom line is that i would like this info to be stored in the PROGRAM instead of in the sequence data note variation itself. that way you could:

1. go back and change it later any time you wanted.
2. change it on the fly just by switching programs.
3. control multiple parameters at once with the velocity.

you could get some real expressive results this way. plus you could breathe some new life into your old sequences just by messing around with the velocity mod settings.

I thought it was velocity to attack, start and pitch that got ditched between os1 and os2? I can't think of a connection with the note variation field , other than that these attributes can still be modified by the note on q links or 16 levels. I os1 if you had vel set to attack this wouldn't show up in step edit as note variation would it?

Considering that these can still be modified as you play with the q link/16 levels, it would be great of this could be modified through the program settings. So rather than the pad velocity controlling all of those features (like os1) , a compromise would give us the option to assign it just 1 - with the qlinks able to overide this when enabled as normal.

Not sure if this is what you meant or not? I don't know whether this be would be any more possible/easy for JJ to accomplish than bringing back all the old velocity settings- (i assume they were removed for a good reason). Although from an outsiders point of view it seems feasible considering as we still have some control over these things.

the envelope tab would switch back when you hit the f2 amp button

There should be a velocity to every parameter independent of the NV.

It would be good, but as far as Note variation, I think the sliders should be an input mechanism for values to the sequence. So if you record NV filter sweeps, then change NV to decay time, record some changes, then assign NV to resonance, record some of that, then NV to loopstart, record that data, all values recorded for each parameter should be retained in the sequence.

As far as I know this is not how it works currently, but I would be very happy to be wrong.
