Different midi channel per pad?

Different midi channel per pad?

Sorry if this is asked a lot - is there a way to assign a different midi out channel to each pad/note in a drum program? Would be useful for using a multi-timbral synth as a drum synth.

I'm guessing program or track, not pad. That's what's it's like on other gear.

Yeah, that's how it works as far as I know, sometimes I press window and come across screens I've never seen before so I wanted to check...

Come to think of it though, sequencing a beat with different synth patches on different channels will be a lot easier with the 5 track view.

I requested that pattern pads have MIDI channel output options, which could also be what you are looking for.

In the meantime, you might be able to create patterns with your MIDI data and assign the pattern pad output to an unused track. Then you can set the track's MIDI output to whichever channel you desire.

yeah, I could also do something with Plogue Bidule or Ableton's racks... I'm just considering getting a synth to get away from the touchpad a little more.

Not sure I get what you're saying, haven't used pattern mode much. But Padmove would be a good way to split things up if I started with a temporary drum program.

Regarding pattern pads, you can make a pattern consisting of a single note. When you assign that pattern to a pad, you can also specify what track you want that single note to play on. If you direct that track to control MIDI channel 16, the single note will be triggered on channel 16.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, it's an indirect way to play different pads on different MIDI channels.

To reiterate:

> Create a pattern consisting of a single note (or event, or string of commands, whatever)
> Assign that pattern to a pad
> Assign the pattern pad output to an unused track
> Assign that track's MIDI output to a channel on your external MIDI device

although of course a dedicated option per pad would be cool :)

i think the option is totall overkill. Use pattern to pad as above. I was gonna sugggest same. Its very rare you would want it and it would hardly ever be used at all cept in certain cases, so above method should work.
