yeah, I could also do something with Plogue Bidule or Ableton's racks... I'm just considering getting a synth to get away from the touchpad a little more.

Not sure I get what you're saying, haven't used pattern mode much. But Padmove would be a good way to split things up if I started with a temporary drum program.
