Akai indicates they would be open to adding support for JJ OS programs/projects in their new MPC line.

Is this something you guys/gals are interested in?

If so, does anyone have a good rapport with JJ to take the lead in contacting him?

I think with so many people using JJOS, those that are potentially moving over or using a new model alongside their existing setup would find this feature incredibly useful.

I also think that the inclusion of JJ programs would be a nice recognition on Akais part (if JJ does allow it) of everything he's done.

Nym, le rat and Sooty G have the best relationship with JJ IMO. You could send him a email with your email address here: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/bug/report.htm

Lets us know what he said. The reason why I wont do it is because too many people accuse me of working for JJ--I bet you can relate hehe.

I'm all in but so many people have mixed emotions for Akai and Ren--a true fan base if you ask me.

my number 1 interest is continued JJOS support for as long as possible.

I knew you'd ask that question and I pondered that as well. I don't see how having the compatibility would be any problem with the further development of the JJ OS. If anything, having JJ's file formats officially recognized will benefit JJ, making his name and product more established. Therefore, the end-user has the best of both worlds. I doubt people will sell their MPC1000s for the MPC Ren. I bet most people will keep both, as far as the JJ OS users are concerned. I know I don't want to be confined to just my computer. There's ALWAYS those times I just want to step away from the DAW and just work on my MPC.

Now fast-forward to summer 2012...

I don't own a laptop. I just bought a Mac Mini in November. So my DAW stays right at home.
Now given the fact that I still own the MPC1000 running JJ OS (and liking the fact that I can just bring that MPC anywhere and make a beat), I would like to FINISH it on the MPC Ren. Can't do that without JJ getting involved.

So in conclusion, I see the need for both hardware and software MPCs... and to have JJ OS development continue and the file formats available on the Ren software would be a MAJOR advantage for myself, JJ, and AKAI.

Outside of this post and perhaps one more as an open letter to JJ, I am staying out of this thread. I respect everyone's contributions. I am looking at what's good for the entire community as a whole. I see no negative impact to the continued development of the JJ OS if his file format is supported by the new MPC line. I see no negative impact to Akai for not supportng JJ OS programs/projects in the new MPC line. But I do see benefits to both parties to have such support.

I got your IP address buddy. Don't lie and say you don't work for JJ.

More interesting times lie ahead. i have a feeling we're all in for a favorable outcome.

JJ giving AKAI his file format would be suicide.

there's absolutely nothing in it for JJ. all it will lead to is more people abandoning his OS & the 1000 (maybe not right away, but over time) and moving over to the REN. that's nothing but decreased sales for JJ which eventually means less support & attention for the JJ OS.

JJ should just keep doing his own thing.

Same here. I sincerely hope that JJ doesn't abandon his OS any time soon, it's really the best thing ever!

with out a doubt! this would be a major down fall to the ren..

i know its upto jj to decide whether or not jj wants to work with akai..

and/or if they/akai are willing to offer jj enough money to do so.. i think that's entirely what it comes down to, and i don't disrespect jj for making which ever decision.. although i know jj would have 100% everone jj/os on his sise for making such a decision.

i say jj so much cos i dont say he/she or whatever cos who really knows.. although i know jj's a dude.. i say jj..

isn't that already happening???
the 2500 has been discontinued fr a while now. only the 1K is still active
and with the new announcement of these controllers even less will buy them
plus what new features can be added to the JJ OS, isn't he already using the machines to almost full capacity???
JJ has to know that the sales will not last forever and at some point he will need to adapt with times
i think this is a good time for him to start trying something new

Naw I have to disagree and it is rare that I disagree especially with you Sooty.

If JJ doesn't share the format this could happen.
--users of the JJOS gets pissed cause files wont load into the Ren.
--users feel JJOS is limited because you can't load the files into the Ren.
--Lack of JJOS users could result is lack of MPC1000 sales then being discontinued.

If JJ does share the file format.
--everyone is happy
--re-establishing relations with Akai could lead to better software
--Akai works on a MPC 1002 with JJOS being an option--I wish.
--more opportunities for JJ.
--maybe a link to his web site

Remember Akai did share its file format with JJ and look what happened. It would be nice if JJ returned the favor. 9 times out of ten working together produces something good for all parties.
