greetings

Do you guys know how to exclude Q-Link data from being erased during recording?

e.g. I record some notes into a midi track, while it's overdubing I use the q-link slider to circle through chops (NDC sample), the q-link data get's recorded and when I play it back again it switches chops.

Now, I want to keep the Q-link chop data while I rerecord the notes. Is there a way to do that?

Would be cool to have the ability to specify what REC records over and what it does not touch.

no, but what you can do is put the qlink data on another track, for example I (right now on my 4k not the 25) will record sample chops on track 1, then on track 2 record the qlink data that controls track 1's filter cutoff, if I want to turn the automation off later, i can by muting the track with the qlink data, in this case it would be track 2.

How do you do that on a mpc1000? I don't see a way to send q-link data from one track to another.

you can't. ArKyve-31 was mistaken.

to do what you want, you'll have to hit JJ with a request. maybe it's something that can be included in os 3 (in SEQ EDIT, a way to include or exclude qlink data during edit functions).

I think you can just erase the notes by holding the erase button durring playback or just stopping and erasing notes only should keep the Q-link data.

Then press overdub to record the new notes, pressing record will probably erase everything including Q-link data.

I agree and wish the whole Q link thing was more functional in the JJ OS.

it's important to know the difference between NOTE ON and REALTIME qlink data.

REALTIME records whenever you move the qlink fader. even if there are no notes it still records the qlink data.

NOTE ON only records qlink data when a note is present. you can move the fader like crazy and nothing will be recorded unless you also hit a pad at the same time. the qlink data is recorded AS PART OF THE NOTE ITSELF. look in STEP EDIT and you will see what is going on. the note & the qlink NOTE ON data is all on one line. the qlink change becomes part of the note itself as a modification of that note. so if you delete the note, then you delete the qlink data that goes with it no matter what.

this is old school akai spec. it also serves to save cpu. no need to be processing all of those qlink tweaks unless there is actually a note there for them to effect. i don't think JJ will be able to do anything about that. REALTIME data is a different story, however. maybe JJ could come up with a way to have qlink REALTIME data be excluded from erase. maybe as an option in SEQ EDIT or something.

Yep. If you press ERASE and select NOTE ONLY, the mpc will leave the q-link data intact,... one solution :)
