Trying to figure out the chords fonction in JJOS2XL and so reading the manual on biglobe site, but to tell the truth i get some difficulties figuring this.

I understand the chord type field and the chord list and "pad to chord" window, BUT where does the sound come from ?????

Does the sound come from a sample already in memory (that is chords can be assembled from sample-based sounds) or does it come from an external keyboard through MIDI ????

Since i dont have my MPC1K connected via MIDI to an external synth, i would hope that i can do chords based on the samples i have in the MPC memory. But JJ's manual doesn't tell for example how to use a sample to do a M7 chord.

Depends how you set your track after wards and what MIDI channel you use. So in Chord mode, choose your chords and MIDI channel and every time you hit a pad it will play the chord you set it to, and send those notes down the MIDI channel you choose in the track you are using.

So yes if you plug midi out of MPC into a synths MIDI in and match MIDI channels then you will be able to hit pads on your MPC and it will play a chord on external synth.

If you want to use a sample then u will have to make instrument, or chromatically map the sample to your program. So each pad is a different note pitch, but it would have to be matched to MIDI chromatic mapping for usefulness. So that way itts not confusing and G is A and you wonder why its different. get me?

if you have keyboard and can play then set up chromatic scale like i said and you can trigger chords the other way from keyboad to MPC but that means not using JJOSXL chord function dosnt it!!

JJ should have looked at the Korg M3 to understand the right way to do a chord function.
Playing chords from the pads on the M3 is hard to beat and so straight forward to setup and use in comparison to how JJ did it.

yeah some gear is easier than others but it is still pretty easy. The hardesst bit is choosing the chords
I like that you can build your own to and add to chord library and of course you can save this as well. Pretty cool. I got synth with chord library but never use it much because in my case the synth is harder to set up than on MPC. I will have to play with an M3 one day.
