Is there a way to quickly select a track, via the pads? For instance, hold down Numeric and hit the pad for the track I want to select?... Currently I go to Track Mute, hold down Active Track and hit the pad then leave track mute mode again, but not going to track mute mode would be nicer.. is it possible?

yeah in OSXL you just hold down the MODE button and turn JOG wheel. this will fly through all tracks pretty quickly and works in many screens as well, not just main screen. You can do it in grid edit, Q-link, step edit, program windows as well. Or high light the track number on main screen as well.

I'll try that and see if it works for me. I don't really know the number of the track I want tho, which is why hitting the pad would be nice (I think of my tracks as pad locations, like in the track mute screen).

button mode allows for the immediate transition between tracks. I use a computer keyboard number pad for this, after years of using mode.highly recommended.

not in front of my mpc, but this might work:

Assign the MAIN button to go to the Track Mixer. (Or you can just use mode+pad4)

Hit MAIN, in the track mixer hit the pad corresponding to the track, hit main again, you're back in the main screen with the selected track.

imo the best and instantly available thing in MAIN screen is to hold down [Q2 AFTER] and press a PAD.

Pad bank A = tracks 1-16
Pad bank B = tracks 17-32
Pad bank C = tracks 33-48
Pad bank D = tracks 49-64

eg. going to track 33 is: hold down [Q2 AFTER], press Pad bank [C], press [PAD 1] and let go of [Q2 AFTER].

cool! never knew..
I just go into the mixer (mode and pad4 in JJOS) select the track by hitting the pad and back to main.
But this should be quicker.

yeah, that's a very cool (yet obscure) shortcut.

i've found it really pays off just to go thru JJ's online manuals and poke around in there when i have spare time. even if i think i know a feature well, i'll read thru its manual pages anyway. 9 times out of 10 i will discover some little function or shortcut that i wasn't aware of or had forgot about.

it's funny how a feature that you didn't pay much attention to when JJ originally added it may become important later on when you change your workflow a bit. suddenly it becomes super useful.

JJ OS is packed full of shortcuts and time savers so don't sleep on those manuals!

JJ introduced this short cut a while ago. There was an old short cut which used the track +/- buttons in a similar way. The problem with that was when playing pads you cant quickly increment the track - because it'd jump to some unwanted track if the button and pad hits coincide. I mentioned this problem to JJ - so you probably have me to thank that the newer shortcut is less obvious than the old one! Apologies :D
