I want to install jj os (I will try the free version) but there seems to be a number of ways for installing it scattered allover the net.

On this forum if i got it right
1) turn on mpc and copy jj os into cf card
2) turn off mpc
3) hold the window button while turning on mpc
4) follow instructions.

On the JJ os web site?

Can someone explain to me the JJ os web site method, very confusing.

Which is the correct method to use?

Just go to the normal load screen and load the OS file from there. It will ask for confirmation and tell you to restart the machine after the file is loaded. After that the contrast adjust is hold stop and turn the jog dial. There's a good chance the OS install will leave your screen on max brightness, but just turn it back down.

It depends on what OS you are upgrading from. If you are running the Akai OS you have to use the power on/window button method with the new OS file placed at the root of the CF drive.

If you are already running a recent copy of any of the JJ OSes you can just place the new OS file anywhere on either drive, then go to the LOAD screen, select the file and hit "DO IT".

Thank you for clarifying that, my mistake. I haven't seen an Akai OS on a 1000/2500 for years.

Quick question, I will be going from OS1 to OS2XL very soon. Is what you described above a way to keep and use both OS's? Is that possible?

Once a JJOS is installed you use the method I described (thanks again elektrik for the clarification)and yes you can switch between them all. Even if they aren't unlocked, save is just disabled.

I don't know if those jumbo LCD's interest you but you might check that thread before upgrading. Those screens will have a free OS bundled but a paid XL version is coming. The current OS2XL won't work with the new screen. Personally I'm kind of stuck as my 1000 and 2500 both have XL. I want a jumbo LCD for one or the other but as it looks now whichever machine I hook up will have an unusable OS2XL serial stuck in the machine as it can't be transferred.

Just wanted to mention that in case you were looking at the new LCD's.

Yeah that's good lookin'. I'll wait and explore my options later. Main reason I am wanting to upgrade is there are no bug fixes for OS1 anymore.

If you have OSXL you probably would be able to upgrade the password to the new JJOS(with large screen) for a upgrade price like OS1 and OS2 can for OSXL.

I suppose that's the hope, JJ said nothing about prices yet. I would pay something close to how he used to discount them going upward.
