I just bought the MPC 1000 a few weeks ago. I am trying to record MIDI data from the MPC 1000 (playing the Evolver with the MPC pads) send it to the Evolver (the one without the keyboard) and listen to it in the MPC. I am able to successfully record samples this way. My question is there any way to hear real time audio through the MPC without recording it? Let me know if this needs further clarification.

Just so you know, I know how to record midi notes on the MPC that are triggered to the Evolver. I can hear the notes played in the Evolver. My only issue right now is that I'm visiting my parents and have no mixer and would like to hear the Evolver's triggered notes and the MPC's drum loops simultaneously.

isn't there an 'input thru' function on the 1k?

where you can monitor what is coming in to the mpc's inputs? i would plug the evolver into that and then use that.

...???? :hmmm:

so use them to monitor the evolver. the evolver has two outs, correct? (you only need one really)

i am starting to wonder if you might have a slight misunderstanding of what is midi and what is audio?

keyboard midi out -> mpc midi in
mpc midi out -> evol midi in
evolver audio out -> mpc audio in
put a track on the mpc to monitor the audio in.

yes - leave it connected the exact same way and use an input thru track.

not sure which particular versions of jj / akai os have this input thru but ive seen it on every 1k ive used.

I have the midi setup correctly. As I said I'm able to record the midi notes and play them back (listening through the output of the Evolver).

I only installed the free version of JJOS 3.13. Someone else on elektron forums just mentioned that you may only have input thru on the paid JJOS versions.

what about your evolver? does it have inputs and input thru type function?

i have a x0xb0x and that 'mix in' jack is amazing - i wish more gear had this.

yes - you will have to figure out HOW to monitor the input unaffected through the evolver - but it might be possible that way.

i tried this once with an alesis ion and it was a huge pain in the ass. here's hoping dave has his shit together.

also...im trying to remember how i got that audio input track on the mpc, and i think it was in the area where you select if it's a drum or a midi track - one of the options was audio in (or something to that effect). this is all from memory - surely somebody here knows what is up.

The Evolver has two outs (one out puts the left channel oscillators and the other output the right oscillators). So I'm bound to only get audio from one channel which I found really messes with your ears! I guess that's the point of some DSI stuff to cut down on costs for the purpose of cheaper synths. Regardless, the blue box is good to me.

ok cool - well that answers that. edit: incorrect - see below post.

what about the evolver? looking at a picture of it, it shows a input 'mode' along with input volume - maybe this helps? or if it's like the ion - you can't really break the input out of the synth path, and it treats it as an osciallator.

building a cheap mixer is pretty easy with two stereo pots, 4 10k resistors, some jacks, some small wire, and a housing

WRONG. :fku:
check it dajaphonics - this is what you do in JJOS3.13 free.
In main screen hit MODE + PAD 8 Then hit F5 [INPUT]
 Input thru screen has options that you need to check. So in your case set it so it says OUT:ST FX:OFF
You can have FX or not, and as well as filters 1 and 2.
This will pass a stereo signal through to your main stereo out.
