Hey guys

Is it possible to route the MIDI from one track to another track with JJ OS2XL?

I am playing track 1 with my MIDI-keyboard, but I would like to play the instrument on track 2 at the same time. Is this possible?

I'm on a MPC 1000.

Cheers

I haven't tried it, but I believe the Multitimbrality feature will do the trick. Look into it in the manual, I believe it allows more than just the active track and program to respond to MIDI at the same time.

Why do you need to do this? Why do the two sounds you want to trigger need to be on 2 separate tracks?

The Multitimbrality feature allows you to play more tracks at a time, but to play track 1 you must send MIDI on channel 1, and to play track 2 you must send MIDI on channel 2 and so on. But my keyboard only plays one MIDI channel at a time, so that does not work as far as I can see.

I a mellotron sound that I want to play on the high keys and a bass sound that I want to play on lower keys, so that's why I need 2 separate tracks :)

Some keyboards allow you to do splits (midi channel), but if you don't have such available, you could do INST program and set your samples as you want :) it's on same track but really easy & quick to do.

It is actually possible possible to make splits on my keyboard, but I would prefer a solution on the MPC, so I don't have to change program on my keyboard, which I could easily forget on the stage...

I tried with a INST program and samples set as I want, but it doesn't work as I want different effects on the two sounds. I guess I'm asking too much of my MPC :)

Sure can, but you'll need a spare MIDI cable. Route an unused MIDI Output to the other MIDI Input. Turn on multitimbral mode. Make sure your MIDI controller is sending to MIDI channel 1 only. Change the MIDI output of track 1 to channel 2 of whatever MIDI output you connected the cable to. Should work.

I requested an option to select MIDI IN on tracks which would be nice for this configuration, and I believe others have requested internal MIDI routing to avoid the cable loop.

Hi again,

Now I suddenly have a problem:

The MIDI from track 1 does no longer play track 2.
I can see that the MIDI is received correctly (as both channel 1 and 2). But the instrument on channel 2 just isn't playing...

Any ideas about what has gone wrong would be much appreciated, as I'm playing a concert next week where I need to play to tracks at the same time :)

Cheers,
Nikolaj

Actually I'm not able to play the multi timbrality does not work at all in this project. It's only the selected track that plays, though I've turned on "Multi Timbre" in the MIDI menu.

But, when I open a new project the multi timbre function works as it should.

What could I have done? :hmmm:
