I want to use Midi handshake so I can record two different synth parts with midi onto the MPC. This way I wouldn't have to unplug midi cables everytime I want to setup a midi handshake with a different synth.

I think this should work if I use Midi thru all the way, however the Mopho goes crazy (starts switching programs and makes all sorts of noise) when I use Midi Thru. MPC 1000 is the master.

Here's my setup: MPC 1000 Midi Out ----> MOPHO Midi In ------> Mopho Midi Thru -----> Micron Midi In ------> Micron Midi Thru -----> Machindrum Midi In ---------> Machinedrum Midi thru ------> Evolver Midi In -------> Evolver Midi thru ----> MPC 1000 Midi In.

For some reason this makes the Mopho go wild, changing programs and hitting more Midi notes then the MPC 1000 JJOSXL2 locks up so I cannot do a Midi handshake on two different synths

If my setup is as such:
MPC 1000 MIdi Out A----> Mopho Midi In
Mpc 1000 Midi Out B -----> Micron Midi In ------> Micron Midi Thru -----> Machindrum Midi In ---------> Machinedrum Midi Out ------> Evolver Midi In

then everything goes just fine. There is no crazy program switching on the Mopho. Anyone else experience something like this before?

You have a feedback loop, so everything going out the MPC is then received back in by the MPC, and probably sent back out.

[MODE] + PAD9 for MIDI preferences, turn off Soft thru.

Feedback just means, feed back. It's where some of the output gets back to the input.

When a speaker outputs sound, and the mic feeds some back, then you get feedback. That's what most people think of, but it can be MIDI too.

The tricky thing is, a MIDI loop can work, where machines are daisy chain connected, if they're setup to handle the messages correctly.

Otherwise, there can be feedback loops, where it's not so much the actual MIDI data causing a problem, but the meaning in the messages.

If the MPC says to play a note, and the synth gets it in the chain so plays a note, but then passes that through, which the MPC passes through again, then it's telling the synth to play a note as fast as the MIDI data can circle through the loop.

So it can just go haywire, freaking out, crashing machines. JJ OS will hang, becoming unresponsive, and you have to wait for it to settle down after pulling the plug. Synths, as described, can make noise, and go crazy.

Maybe you can use it creatively and be the Jimi Hendrix of MIDI feedback.
