new to mpc and jj os2xl - v 1.42 upgrade questions

so i bought an mpc recently and it has jj os2xl installed on it. however, it says v 1.42. i know this is a very old version, but how do i upgrade from it? (or can I?)

my apologies if this question is pretty basic, but i am new to this.

Put the latest OS on a CF card and go to the load screen. The updated OS will be unlocked, the unlock only needs to be entered once and is machine specific.

No, once it's unlocked, all future updates are free.

Put the latest OS file on the CF card, then select it in the LOAD screen, it should update it.
