os128xlcd video request thread

i have been using a video camera a lot more with os128XLCD, mostly for bug reports and workflow suggestion videos.

however, i'm finally finally finally ready to start doing a couple lightweight feature demo videos.

so, what do you want to see? i have things planned already, but i need some ideas, too. this is not a "broad overview of xlcd" rather this is specific functions, features, howtos, and tricks.

Hey, Nym, I'd like to see something about the new trim and program features. Just installed 128xl and am having a hard time to adjust all my NDC programs

I would like to see how to record with audio tracks... (If possible , because I think it's kind of buggy with more than one take on a track)

The start offset is cool that we are not stocked at the beggining of a bar.

My solution will be to do it in 2xl (for vocals & scratches, or live instruments) , and reload after a mixdown of the track with my project in 128xl to finish it, until jj fixes that.


I began yesterday to work with 128xl so maybe there's something I don't catch up.

Maybe it's better to use the loop recorder or the record section, instead of directly on a track?

Overall , I really like it and it opens the mind to work with the big screen and workflow, even if I was a bit suspicious the first minutes I tried it.

same. i'm suspicious of everything. the first couple times i use any new JJ os, i don't like it as much because i'm a baby when it comes to having my muscle memory tampered with.

i've finally been starting to use patterns recently (mostly CC 7 volume patterns for ducks and sweeps) and realize that i've been missing out on a critical power feature.

THIS is one of my new favorite features also.
someday i got to get up on Loop edit, too, but i'm such a grid guy that i can't wrap my head around it.

Yes, absolutely the NDC, you said it was much improved from os2xl...
Please show how this works, slowly and step by step. Your old divide and conquer video wasn't much help since you did it so fast it is impossible to know whats going on!
I am very interested in the exact button pushing and cursor movements required.. I don't think JJ has optimized the workflows very well previously, so perhaps it's possible to give useful feedback now..

i would love to see how the note repeat works, and that separate loop screen (i remember you told me it wasnt on the main screen anymore)

also, the new grid edit features, zooming in so it looks like on 2xl, and also the "block" section where you can copy stuff and see more than one track at once.

any exclusive/improved features for this lcd/os combo

a video of destructive chopping and non-destructive chopping would be dope! (maybe even its own video comparing 2xl and the xlcd one)

I'm most interested in GRID EDIT, NDC, MIDI OUT functionality, TRACK MUTE, NEXT SEQ, TRIM functionality and RECORD... off the top of my head.

hmm.. checked out GRID LOOP EDIT (1/2bar) which now seems a lot more complicated than before. Is it true in practice? JJ's video isn't too descriptive in that respect.

i've never been a LOOP EDIT user as i didn't cut my teeth on step editing.

i think i'll probably try to do single serving videos focusing on individual screens - record, trim, etc.

that way i can replace them easily when they change without having to redo an entire video.
