man i used to mulitrack and split everything and now i just track everything separately out of the Stereo outputs.
Changed set-up a few times and re-routing was a nightmare for old beats., having to either re-cable or re-mix everything when i opened up old projects - when you have a rapper waiting to hear beats its not very condusive
With everything set to ST out you load it up and it just plays, one knob to adjust for volume. so much easier. Can easily do a two track pass if you want a quick mixdown too.

amazing how habits change!

mpc1k uses 6 outputs when doing this.

If you have more than 6 tracks on mpc then you'll have to swap out those mpc sounds and/or tracks and make another recording pass in DAW using 7-12.

How you swap and manage is on you, there is more than one way to do that.

I have a 1000 FREE JJOS 3.16 and I´m new to this. When I go to mixer I see that the mixer is divided in pads, not tracks. If I have different tracks with different programs and the pads are repeated doing different things, can I still send to the DAW each individual track (up to 6 of course)?
Maybe the question is: can I do that with the free JJOS, set the mixer to tracks instead of pads? or I should inmediately cop the JJOS2XL (asumming that you can send your tracks to 6 outputs?

Whaddup everybody!

I just wanted to ask if I can do a multi track recording (asigning each track to a different output - so I can play with the mutes while I record it) having the JJOS Free version (3.16)?

Because I only see pads in the mixer and not tracks. I still gotta get a good interface with at least 6 inputs and I´m just starting with my mpc 1000 with the free JJOS. But I know that I want to record all the tracks at the same time with the track mute and not send them individualy.

Thanks in advance!

PS: I post the question again because I think my previous post wasn´t clear at all :P

I use my MPC 2500 with 10 outs. A few synths and end up with about 26 per track usually (Making techno)

However my mixer is only 16 track and ive had it like most of my kit forever (Since 91) so it's staying. I like to build rapport with my kit. Not just chase the next new thing. My MPC the newest thing I got and must have had that over a decade. Still my pride and joy.

So I sample bits into the MPC. Sometimes with FX but often not if I can help it. Then get it down to the 16 tracks I need. Then capture all of that on my HD24 ADAT. Then off the to studio for a proper mix. Or ill make my own 'demo' mix at home.

I dont use a DAW. Never have. They have too many options for me and besides, I make better music with my ears than my eyes any day. Just like I get a better experience from porn with my eyes over my ears.

I do often fantasise about buying a decent desk and outboard and such and mixing from home, but unlike the rest of the entire gearslutz forum I realise its not the kit its the person using it. So, for me to get as good mixes as the studio I use Id have to be an expert at mixing and know the kit inside out and such. There is no short cut. Much like I could learn to fix my car when it breaks but again I outsource that.

I try to excel at what I do, making music. Not saying I do or don't but I focus like a laser beam.

I understand this hasent answered OPs question exactly, but thought someone may benefit.

Of course, you can always go the gearslutz way, buy 1 million pieces of gear and not have a clue how to use any of it, and resign yourself to making crap blippy fart vids on youtube to show for you £20k investment.

MPCs rule. Ive had them all but the 2500 my fav. And yes that includes the 60 and the 3000 that people bleat on about. oooohhhh the sound quality. Like any record ever had a naked 3000 on it. Course not, via an SSL this and Otari that and Lexicon this and API that.etc. Ill stick with my 2500 any day. Right amount of features, brilliant admittedly transparent sound but integrates well via wav files and such.

Thanks for saying that, I can't stand mpc3k heads in every mpc comparison video (even the ones that don't compare a mpc3k) swearing up and down of the "lazy and funky" timing that gives more groove and then a minute after swearing that the 3k has the tightest timing from all mpcs. Also the "it's has a nice mid thump therefore is better than everything else on the market", "it's more warm and analog", "its more 12bit than x mpc" WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT LOL
