'Bouncing' a MIDI track to an audio track on MPC1000

Okay so what I was looking to do was sequence an external drum machine with the MPC (so have the MPC sending MIDI out to it) while at the same time recording the drum machines audio out with the MPCs record-in.

I tried to do this by making a MIDI track with the sequence on like track 1, stopping it, then going to an audio track and trying to use Rec+Play Start to record the drum machine as an audio track. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working and i'm getting a lot of really glitchy results. the machine seems to have trouble sending out MIDI while recording the result at the same time.

any ideas?

its really difficult to describe what it's doing, sometimes i hear nothing but the metronome, sometimes i can hear the drums incredibly quietly, sometimes it **** the tempo up, occassionally it even gets stuck in an 'infinite loop' where i get a series of high tempo clicks that do not stop regardless of the stop button or mute or anything and i have to reset the machine
i'm on JJOS free right now


EDIT: ok so I tried JJOS2XL and it seems like it has no trouble doing what i want it to. guess the issue was with the free JJOS
