All drums on one track.....want to put on seperate tracks

Say I make a drum beat with the entire kit on track 1. How can I separate each hit of the kit to individual tracks? Thanks.

Tried what I found in the manual and it totally wiped my other tracks data......

The long way in the mpc 4000 (not sure if it is the same as yours) would be to make copies of the tracks and then erase the parts you don't want from each. There is an erase button on the 4000 so you can erase portions(fast). Or you can go into the midi events and erase all the sounds you don't want.(slow)

Then you would have separated sounds.

with akai OS? you should be able to go to edit track, and then specify which MIDI notes you want to copy. default is all midi notes, but if you had the bass drum on note 40 for example, select note 40, copy to an unused track.

kick.....then....snare.....then.....percs.

just an example yo.....the whole reason I want them on separate tracks is to track out....

do you guys make programs with full drum kits? or programs for each individual drum sound? Maybe I going about it the wrong way.

End goal is to have everything on its on track to make tracking to DAW easy

how ya'll working?

my process is something like this...

chop up a drum break and make a drum program... on track 1 i lay down the snare... then i switch to track 2 and lay down the kick using the same drum program as track 1... then i go to track 3 and do my hi-hats... my other chopped sample or whatever melodic bits on track 4... bassline on track 5... and so on... this way i can also mute my drums however i please while in the track mute screen as well... so i can leave just hi hats for a second and bring the kick/snare back in with the pads... you get the idea.

i use full kits here, all on one track. i've recommended drums on 1 track for a long time, it lets you make better use of grid edit and allows you to play your drumset all at once. i'll often have a 2nd track for additional percussive instruments if they are diverse enough to require their own pgm.

instead of using the track mutes when you track out, you use the GPE mixer and mute the tracks that way (it'd be great if there was a "route to nowhere" output in GPE). it's a little more unwieldy but worth it to see everything in the same place.

tracking out midi is a piece of cake (aint it always, compared to audio from the MPC).

I love this feature! But I also get was nym is saying about grid edit being better if you're on one track so basically I do all my drums on track 1 in grid edit, when I'm happy I simply come out of grid edit and go to the multi screen and separate the tracks with one click. For some strange reason track 5 never receives a drum though, it'll do 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 an so on.... No big deal though.

so you are using the multi function? Say for example you have 8 drum sounds playing out of a program with 20 sounds....will it only go to 8 tracks or will it go to say 20 tracks (if your program has 20 sounds)?
