I have problem with the CF card. The MPC (1000 JJOS2XL) can't see the folders and the PC (via USB) detects it as unformatted. I have been using this card for a long time and never had problems.
Is there any way to recover data?

you probably filled the card up and it's out of space... when a card gets full it can take up to a half hour or so just for the MPC or computer to recognize it... leave it in the load screen for a while and see if it reacts... if it eventually does, free some space up on it...

Get a new CF.

The fastest and largest one you can afford wouldn't hurt IMO.

If you cant recover your beats then thats what GOD intended.

I lost everything when I moved from a 500 to 2xl.

:Sigh:

What have you tried with both the PC and MPC? Be specific.

The second CF works without a problem

Thanks for the tip.
I did your way (because CF may be full), but unfortunately it didn’t work.
Everything began with the creation of a folder that I couldn’t open or delete. I backup some data then. The next day, the card was no longer visible to the MPC.
After connecting MPC to PC it says that the CF is not formatted. I can do format, but first I would like to recover some beats (about 30).
I wonder if connecting CF via an external reader could help.

I also have a hard drive.

Go ahead reformat if you want. Power Data recovery can get files back even after 10 formats. I've done it before. It's not freeware. You may be able to find one out there that is freeware.

Your card reader may just not like that card, yes, this has happened before.
What brands and sizes are the 2 cards? What os r you on?

The first card I bought together with the MPC - It's Kodak 256 MB
The second card I have used for several years, until the last week - It's A-Data 2GB (currently not working).

OS:
MPC: OS2XL (3.28), PC: W7

it could also be a trojan virus... the kind that spread from USB thumb drives... a friend passed one onto my computer last year from a USB drive... once your computer has it, it spreads to every additional USB drive you plug into that PC like AIDS... the virus would change certain folders to hidden folders and it also created a fake RECYCLER folder... so i remember a couple of my beat folders completely disappeared [until i removed the virus and made those folders readable again]. anyways, just another idea as to what might be causing it...

The fastest CF you can get will go as fast as the reader?

I'm pretty sure CF3's are backwards compatible.

And its well documented (or it should be) that the 2 gig limit isn't true.

I've used 4's and 8's.

As I understand it SSD's get slower as they get bigger.

A 4G CF3 is probably all you need.

MPC forum could probably use a definitive test of that.

I haven't tried a CF3 myself,
(but I'm pretty sure it would work),
but I do stick to sandisks.

Cant vouch for kodaks and other brands.

I've seen people using 16 cf2's on a 1000 also.

As far as I can tell the only restriction is the reader.

The 1k, 2500 and 5k have all worked well for me using ScanDisk 8g cards.
I would say ScanDisk is still your best bet on cards for consistency.

They even work well with the 4k using the front port and a USB reader.

I know its a 10 years old tread , But the same thing happened to me last night
" Directory Error!" popped up while trying to save a Beat Project ,
after restart MPC1000 ( JJOS) the MPC doesn't see the CF Card and computer tells its unformatted.

could you recover your files ?
what recovery tools are useful to try on Mac or PC ?

FAT/FAT32 recovery utils will be the first thing I would suggest trying as that fits the format on the 1000/2500

It should work fine provided that the card itself doesn't have any hardware damage.
