I would like to know about OS128XL, since I want to get a new MPC soon (still rocking a 2KXL at the moment, for over 13 years now).

The big screen looks mighty tempting, but I have read some reviews from people who were not completely happy about OS128XLs and some missing features or about timing/stability...

So, maybe some of you people with the XLCD and the accompanying OS can clear things up for me...

Thanks a lot,
greets from sunny munich/Germany,
Michael

i think its mostly very stable, last time i asked nym (he was doing beta testing for it) i had a huge list of things i wanted to have to make me want to switch, and it passed pretty much all of them with flying colors from what i remember.
i dont remember exactly what the features were because i still havent gotten it yet, but there was 1 thing that i remember was bugging me.

i remember he said that the ndc chopping, there was a slight delay of the sample from when you pushed the pad to when it played, that worried me, but i dont remember if this was before my personal list of things i wanted it to do passed, or if it was after that still.

anyway, hopefully nym or someone else will chime in.

i would really think that something like that would have been addressed by now though, but it never hurts to double check.

i do know that since then, it has been his main used OS though, so that says something about it.

As I've been using OSXL a lot before it takes a bit of time to get used to the new features. There are some much needed and good ones and some that switch up the workflow and not always for the better (eg. grid/loop edit). I'm waiting a bit of development on the OS before making the jump for good. The extra space that the screen gives is absolutely beautiful and once you try it, there's no going back.

Hope this helps.

Does it have aftertouch/pad pressure yet?

I wasn't clear if this is missing from internal sample control, I'd miss it, but not a biggie or from MIDI, which I use all the time.

os128xl never freezes on me given the features i use, it's definitely my favorite OS. i've been using REAPER a lot more heavily these days, so i'm rethinking what role my MPC plays in my music. right now it's a controller and clip editor but i'm not using it as a sampler anymore, preferring Reasamplomatic for oneshots and Short Circuit for MLR patches.

I use it mainly for midi seqing and anything to do with controlling outboard gear and I haven't had any problems with it. Id like to see chord functions quantized and a few other things to do with the chord and pattern functions but other than that, I haven't crashed or lost any data. The added screen space is a plus by the way, but it does make transport interesting. There aren't any good cases for it.
