MPC 2500 Hard Drive Speed

I seem to remember watching some JJOS videos on youtube in which the process of loading, saving, and browsing waveforms/ samples was much quicker than my 2500. The overall response and processing speed of the various operations within the OS seemed, in general, much faster than my 2500.

I'm using JJOSXL, and I'm pretty sure I have a 7200 RPM hard drive within my 2500.

I have yet to try reformatting it, but that may help. Also, I'm wondering if it's possible that my harddrive speed is only 5600 RPM. Another idea is to store samples in a CF card (if it is faster than the hard drive).

Does anyone have any insight into improving the speed of data transfer for my 2500? This really affects the workflow, as I spend more time waiting than I've seen is possible on the 2500. Any tips, ideas, or insight would be greatly appreciated.

It might sound stupid but maybe the videos you watched were all small mono drum hits being loaded?

do you sample in mono or poly? or both?

yeah, my 2500 is pretty slow to load a large project, just something you have to wait for i think. maybe if you installed a ssd it might be a bit quicker, but i cant see getting around this wait time that much.

at least its only when loading bigger files/projects.

That's a good point. I do tend to sample in stereo. I will have to experiment a bit more before I know for sure.

The videos that I was referring too, I'm pretty sure, were those official JJOS demo videos showcasing new JJOS features. The actual processing speed appears faster than that of my 2500.

It is possible that he is dealing with smaller size audio samples.

I'll keep you posted about what I find out.

excuse me,,it is possible to install a SSD into my mpc2500?

if so,,any specifications? I never wanted to install an HD into mine because I travel and gig around with my mpc and wanted to avoid HD mechanical issues,,

but a SSD would change things
