hello guys

here my question

running my 2500 with a tb 303 via sync doepfer msy2

what I want to do is: to be able to start - stop the 303 sequencer when sequences changes on the mpc

for example,,in sequence 01 the 303 is running,,but then I want to change to sequence 02 with no 303.and then go to sequence 03 with the 303 sequencer running again,,.for this I would need to start-stop the midi clock coming from the midi port assigned to the doepfer msy2..

is there a way to achive this? possible to send a midi stop, or a sync off-on to the desired port between sequences?

Not sure that there are many off the shelf bits of kit that will do it.

Maybe something like this, which is supposed to start/stop the MIDI clock that is being sent through it, starting up in time at the start of the bar, and stopping in time at the end of the bar?...

It has a DIN sync out, so if that is started and stopped as well as the MIDI, you would not need your current DIN sync convertor in the chain.


If that doesn't do what you want, you can't find anything else, and if you have electronics skills, you might be able to DIY something.

Normally the MIDI to DIN sync convertor will send a continuous clock signal, and start and stop commands based on the incoming MIDI data.

This is the DIN-sync pinout, often only pins 1/2/3 are used...

The layout is:

Pin 1 = start / stop (stop = 0 volt, start = +5 volt)
Pin 2 = ground
Pin 3 = clock (symmetric pulse wave 0/+5 volt, the positive slope determines the clock step)
Pin 4 = reset start (optional; technically the same as start/stop; the reset is valid for the song mode of roland machines)
Pin 5 = fill in (optional; technically the same as start/stop; it activated the fill in function of the TR-808 and TR-606)


Maybe, if you have electronic skills, or access to someone that does, you could rig up a simple circuit (and cable/s) to trigger the DIN-sync start/stop line, so that the 303 is still receiving the DIN-sync clock signal from the convertor, but it is receiving start/stop commands from the DIY trigger circuit?

You would possibly trigger that circuit with an audio signal from an individual MPC audio output, one to start, next to stop, another to start, another to stop, etc?

Another possibility might be to send a clock signal from the MPC directly into the DIN-sync clock input, which is a 24PPQ signal. This might also require a circuit to convert an audio pulse signal from an MPC audio output into the required clock signal, if it doesn't work directly off of an MPC audio output/signal.

With some work, this might let you send clock signal when you want, and it might start/stop the 303 when you want, not really sure.

thanks ,,yes I have the mungo as well..

maybe I explain myself wrong..what I want to achieve is to be able to "mute" the 303 when I mute the track on the mpc..even if the sequence is programmed on the 303 and not on the mpc ( one of the 303´s have the colin fraser midi mod)..

I though that if I assign a specific midi port to the track where the 303 is running it would be muted at will..but seems the mpc still sending data even when the track is muted?

anyway seems not possible this way..? maybe easier to just mute the track on the mixer..but that is another story..
