jjos OS1,2, 2XL,3

Hello all! I recently got hold of a MPC1k that had the free JJOS installed. I played around a bit with it and the Akai OS and immediately fell in love with JJOS free. However, after much research and digging into my wallet i decided to get the JJOS OS1. LOVE IT! However, i was very confused by the JJOS web site in all its simplicity and wanted to ask this......Do you have to purchase the OS1, then OS2 to get the XL? Also, in your honest opinions....WHICH IS BETTER? I mean 2 sounds like it would satisfy all my needs, but was wondering the advantage if any to XL or 3??? Confused dot com over here....HELP!

JJOS's site might seem a bit confusing due to the language used What it reads is basically:

* All JJOS'es are free to demo, only saving is disabled in demo mode
* Buy a licence for OSXL for 123 usd and get licences for all OS's
* For existing owners of JJOS1/2, upgrading to OSXL costs 74/15 usd
* If you have an MPC with the XL screen mod, you have to purchase an OS separately (OS128XL). A licence of OS128XL does not include licences to other JJOS versions. Discounts of OS128XL available if you already own licences to other JJOS versions
* Only OSXL, OS128XL and OS3 are currently supported. Older versions of JJOS are still available but no official support exists anymore (ie. no bugfixes coming)

OSXL is for regular MPCs (1000 & 2500), OS128XL is for the bigger screen modded units.

I recommend purchasing the licence for OSXL. By buying OSXL, you automatically get a licence for JJOS1, JJOS2, OSXL and JJOS3 (still under development).

Like you, I also prefer JJOS1. But I still bought the JJOSXL licence to "future-proof" myself, in case the features I miss from JJOS1 eventually get included in the JJOS3 updates

JJOSXL is a beast BTW, but quite different from JJOS1/2, it has round-robin sample playback (ie. pad cycle) and "multichannel phrase sampling" capabilities (ie- pattern to pad). If you don't need JJOS1/2 specific features like "q-link to swing", you'd be well advised to upgrade to OSXL eventually. OSXL is already quite mature. OTOH, JJOS3 is still in its early stages and I wouldn't recommend it for "critical duties" just yet..

THANKS ALL! That cleared it up for me. I think i will go for xl eventually then, but for right now OS1 has made a HUGE difference. I LOVE my MPC 1000. Where have i been all these years..haha. Got fed up with the computer for live purposes so i still do some work on the laptop but hoping to use the MP for live. PEACE

If you have a half decent audio interface you still have the option to use some VST's on the laptop as a sound module rack MIDI slaved to the MPC, and still do everything on the 1000. If you find yourself running out of memory or need more realistic sounding multi sampled instruments as opposed or in addition to samples of the same.

Yes indeed.. Especially with jjos ...
You dont realise how much other midi things/devices you can control with a 1k
the 5k isn't even as flexible.... not even close...
I use 1k and reaper together, and i get more intergration than i do with mpc ren...
