Loading samples and listen to them while sequence playing?

Is there a way to lets say have your sample looping and at the same time you are loading drums? so that you can choose the drums according to the sample.

Nope. You could load a library into your ram and purge when you are done finding what you want.

You would think that technically it could be done on the 1000 though,
since the 500 can do it.

Although it's possible that it was an unintentional side effect from the 500's mangled OS as it was never advertised as an official function.
And let alone the 500 being half the machine I heard its buggy crummy little OS is in fact based on stripped down old 1000 code.

But unfortunately no.

Neither the Akai nor JJ OS' allow it on the 1000.
Intentional or otherwise.

Be nice if JJ put it in OS3.

It sure was a nice feature on the 500, but yeah... the rest of the OS let it down.

Still.... thinking about picking up the 500 again. Even with it's faults, it sure was a nice little 'for the road' box.

I also loved the portability of it.
I got some of my better ideas at the time sitting in the park with the fresh air and watching the city go by.
But when I got mine (it was one of the first models with the small font screen),
that was the most portable thing you could get.
That was before Ipads, most smartphones ( blackberry's were out), android.

These new tablets are not only more portable then the 500, but you can do more things with them.
Check something on the internet, browse files on a readable sized screen.
And although you've got the fly and the iMPC etc, the MPC interface and workflow has become a cliche these days.
Its probably the most imitated standard, the second most popular being the old Roland step button interface.

Pretty much any cheapie touchscreen tablet you can buy probably has an MPC styled app for it.
I'm not sure the 500 really has a proper application anymore because of that other then as a physical collectors item.
Especially as long as its functionally hamstrung with that mongoloid OS.

damn homie, i just can't agree with any of that shit…^^ the 500 is dope, the os is a lot less buggy then the akai os on the 1000. i have a 1000 jjos1 and jjos2xl..i also have a 2000xl and i prefer the 500 over it all…i love chopping on the 500..for real the 500 is a beast, I'm not sure if u had an old os on your 500, or maybe you just didn't spend enough time with it, but **** a iPad, or android.. when I'm on my 500 i be like this

I wasn't to bad at kicking that 500 around myself.
I had some pretty good tricks on it.
But I dont see how it can compare to a properly designed interface like the JJ in any way except accidentally being able to preview samples from the card with a loop playing.

Its true that you could do anything an MPC could do eventually on the 500, but it took forever.
The JJ instrument program and the global select functions makes reassigning all the sounds and setting across a template every time you want to use a keyboard bank so moot its not even a comparison IMO. That used to take me a week just to guestimate and test out 3 baseline sounds.
With JJ I can test them all in half an hour.

But the very worst part of the 500 IMO was that after a week of wrangling it and trying to keep any inspiration I had for the same beat a week ago alive, then it would get the note to pad assignments all goofed up.
Its possible that mine being an earlier one it may have been more futzy in that last regard, I never used every 500 made.
But the screen, the wonky wheel, the stiff pads...

I haven't tried them out yet but I'm thinking a full faced touch screen interface should be able to do that better.
And maybe even more importantly, quicker.

As a scratchpad.
I'd only use hardware for proper work.
Specifically JJ on a 1000 or 25.
