Is this a good deal?

Found a perfect condition 1000 with JJOSXL 3.14 installed. Has 128 ram upgrade and comes with 2 GB flash card, carrying bag, and original box.. for $600.

This a good deal? Thinking real hard about copping this.. I have an MPC Ren, used to own a 4000 which I miss.. and am kind of tempted by the JJOS features which the Ren does not have.

How is the 1000 quality wise? Are they known to break a lot, etc?

Ask the seller does it have "pad upgrade" (one sheet containing 16 pads), opposed to 16 individual pads, that were initialy on first models. Depend on use, jog wheel might wobble screwing up undernieth encoder (there are few homegrown fixes to that wobble). My buttons worked very well, but after I haven't used it for some time, they oxidized and in some of the most used buttons (coursor, main, bars/step and shift) I had to replace tacts. Beside it's whole metal frame, never had a malfunction on internals, outs/ins/midi. os2xl is a blessing BTW.

Eh, if it also has the new pads, it's not a terrible deal, but you could probably find better.
And do you mean JJOS2XL?


And yeah, the only part that's really ever gonna break are the tact switches—one of them will die at some point, and it's worth it to replace them all at once with higher quality (OMRON or ALPS) tact switches. More durable, and they feel much nicer, less actuation force.

Thanks for the replies.. I actually got a pretty good deal, I thought anyways, on a prestine 2500 with jjos and xlcd screen.. Also came with original small screen and 4 cf cards.. Not even a scratch on the thing.. It's pretty much brand new..for $925 ^_^

2500 is the handsomest MPC IMO.
Its functionally pretty much the 1000 but with the number pad, full squares, tilt screen, etc for an even better workflow.

That would be the consideration to choose between the 1000 and 2500 IMO, smaller footprint versus more tactile controls.

The 5000 is probably the second best looking post-Linn MPC,
but I'd take the JJos over anything you're likely to get as an OS from Numark.
