effects stopped working on 1000/Os2xl

I can no longer assign a pad an effect (1 or 2) or even turn up the send.

I believe I must have switched something. all my old beats effects are still there and work but any new beat... it's not happening

In mode 7 go to OUT tab and change from TR to ST.

maybe when i upgraded to 3.41 maybe

anyway to make it default to ST? or switch all at once?
