Multitimbral mode

Hi-

Doe anyone know of a way to make the a/b MIDI inputs differ in their multi/monotimbrality?

For instance, using a sequencer or knob box on MIDI in A so that the sequencer or knob box would only affect one particular midi channel, no matter the setting of the active channel?

Simultaneously, is it possible to use a keyboard on MIDI in B and have it only affect the active midi channel?

I play live, often improvised, multitimbral synth jams on multiple midi channels. I'd love to have my sequencer and midi controller only affect the Six Trak on channel 3, but be able to bounce around from channel to channel via Active Track, to record looping midi information routed to my other synths and MPC programs. ONE channel at a time. Get a sequence going for the SixTrak, jam a little on the microbrute, record, loop, do some parts on a program full of mellotron samples, record, loop, etc, mute, unmute, repeat ad infinitum.

The first half sounds like a job for multitimbral mode, except for the second half--which sounds like multitimbral should be off. Any MPC wizards know a workaround?

Im not at MP ATM but you might check how multi setting works on tracks starting from 17, as multitimbre just woks on 1 to 16. ..it could react to active track channel after 17

Bugfix, that's a really good idea. Haven't tried it yet, but the problem I forsee is that you can't use the external midi controller to mute channels above 16.

The process is improvise, record midi data, tweak, mute, unmute, repeat.

Sounds like what I actually need is some kind of midi filter to filter the omni keyboard output so it's just talking to channel 1 or 5 or 16 or whatever.

Anybody know of such a device?

the mpc jjos has a midi filter option, but its probably not the same as say external one

this would be a great feature, however I don't think it exists as you described. I'm fairly certain tracks 17+ cannot be controlled externally in multitimbral mode.

is there a reason selecting the output channel on your controllers is not working for you? perhaps we can find a work-around.

Agreed, the simplest solution would be to use multitibral mode and just have a MIDI keyboard that can change the transmitting channel easily.. but this would indeed limit the track count to 16..
