Hello guys

I´m using my MPC 2500 with latest JJOSxl as a master to control Elektron´s Octatrack..

I´m sending PC in order to change patterns on the Octatrack everytime the MPC change sequence

both machines running 16 bars sequences

seems that there is an issue with the Octatrack being late couple of bars..everytime the MPC change sequence the Octatrack seems to cue the next pattern at the beginning of the new sequence..then take this 2 bars before change to the next pattern..

this only happens with the Octatrack and not with other gear..

I made a test using ableton as a master instead of the MPC and the issue is the same..so I´m sure it is not an MPC problem

when using the Octatrack as a master the MPC make the change of sequence right on time as expected..but my setup need to have the MPC as master as I´m also controlling other gear.

My question is if there is a way under JJOS xl to place the program change in a specific bar of the MPC sequence?..let´s say on bar 13-14 instead of have it on bar 1.. so the Octratrack can have the time to cue the next pattern and make the change on time in bar 1??

thanks in advance

Should be possible, not sure about JJOS XL, but I would expect it to be the same...

Select the track on which you want the Program Change to be, go into Step Edit, move through the sequence to bar 13, insert a Program Change Event.

That is what I would be looking to do on an Akai OS.

Yes! to TYPO & I just tested Simon's & it worked like a charm.

btw
this might be a bug on Octatrack 1.25B OS

seems it not just Octatrack but all the machines from them,,A4 MD.. not sure how it works between them as Octatrack is the only one I have from them..

in any case I hope they fix this in the next OS update

If the Octatrack starts it's pattern right at the start of the bar/beat, and the MPC doesn't send it's program change until right at the start of the bar/beat, when it changes to the next sequence and plays out that program change, then it makes sense that the Octatrack would already be playing the previous pattern before it receives the program change, and therefore would not play the changed pattern until the next time it loops around.

That is knowing nothing about Octatrack patterns, are they like a full length sequence/loop? Would it make sense to change from one pattern to another, after one pattern has started, in the middle of that pattern, and is that possible in the Octatrack?

In short: the OctaTrack is almost the Garden of Eden Creation Kit.

I never had this issue with either of the OTs I've owned. When I use PC messages from my MPC I always turn "MMC" on. I know what it does - I know what it doesn't but.. on my 1K w/ JJOS1... this seems to always help get things solved when I'm using the MPC as the master.

Your setup sounds like a ton of fun! I hope you get this figured out quick because it seems to me like you have much more important shite to do with your toolz.

Hey Medearis,,

wooud you please be so kind to elaborate on your settings between your mpc1000 and the OT?

did u send PC from the mpc to change patterns on the OT?

if so,,do they change right on time?

this issue is driving me crazy..I manage to "fix" them placing a PC message on bar 16 on the mpc and then the OT change patterns right on time,,but this bring other difficulties for live use..

I talked with couple of OT users on the Elektron frums and they have the same issue with Cirklon and Ableton.. but seems to be under midi clock.. so I´m interested on your settings under MMC?

thanks!

longtime elektron user here. a few thoughts:

does the Octatrack show the cued-up program change when the MPC sends it? with my set up, you can see on the OT display that it is getting ready to change to the new pattern

- is your Octatrack firmware up to date? there was a problem in delayed program change/pattern change in earlier firmware. latest firmware is on the Elektron site

- is the OT *definitely* on the same bars/timing? you might have the 1/2 division set instead of '1', etc, and by deault the OT won't change until it has reached the end of the current pattern

- what are your settings for pattern change on the OT? can't remember where the setting is (not in the studio at the moment), but you can manually set whether the OT changes after pattern length, or other divisions. you could check that too

in my experience (and with recent firmware) the OT will change pattern on the money

i've just bought an MPC1000 and wll be slaving my OT to to, in a similar set-up to you. so i'll check it over the weekend and see if it works ok
