A JJOS For Everyone. Or, Which JJOS for the job.

I recently acquired a MPC 2500 with license for JJOS 2XL with version 3.45 and I've spent the greater portion of last month toying around with it. After realizing it's lack of Velocity -> Sample Start, Attack, Decay, etc I went on a quest to find which JJOS versions supported it with help of this forum (thanks everyone).

Since, I've bounced around from JJOS 3, Free, 1, XL, and even the last Akai release. They are all great in their own way. This is the view of a newb, but it appears with each JJOS release, the author has been trying to optimize screen space (read: smaller everything and less window use), has generally degraded the grid view, generally improved the load/save screens, and added more macro-level features (batch edits, simults, etc).

FWIW, OS1 seems to fit my needs the best.

I'm just curious how the seasoned beat makers on this forum see it, and what you all use in your day to day and why. Thanks in advance.

Chord bank mainly and its just works for me. I miss one thing from XL and that is some grid edit functions but that is fine I work around that very easily so no great loss.

Started with JJOS Free, then went JJOS1 and after a while ended up using OSXL.
At first I thought there were stuff missing from XL that I liked using in JJOS1, but I have since found the equivalent functions from XL (like qlink-to-swing - its under MAIN in JJOS1 but under GRID EDIT in OSXL). The MIDI remote control abilities in OSXL alone make it worth it for me!

I feel that the amp envelope and filter controls are much tighter on JJOS1 then JJOS2, JJOS3 or XL. Does anybody else feel the same and if so have you figured out how to manipulate the same features on the latter versions to compensate or make them just as tight?

I would also like to know is there a place where all of the Os's are summarized in a comparison?

Been on JJOS1 for about three years now. The other JJ's have some great features but I just haven't taken the plunge.

thank you for pointing out the chart, I guess I'm more in a way looking for real world opinions /summaries on which os people are gravitating towards and why. I know opinions are subjective but they still have value amongst like minded individuals?
So I'm wondering what kind of user leans towards what kind of os, are people who are heavy into sampling leaning towards one where as people heavy into sequencing outboard gear towards another etc...?

I've been really getting into using audio tracks recently, so 2XL is good for that.

Audio tracks FTW.
I take full advantage of them on JJOS1, even if my use is barbaric (use audio track to record a riff then take that riff and set it on a pad, trigger it on the one).
