Live transposing midi notes while I play a pad

I feel like I did this before but I've forgotten how, and I can't find anything via search…

I'm using my mpc2500 running JJOS-XL 3.42 to control an external synth. The first pad plays C1. I want to transpose it so when I play that first pad, it sends out a C0 instead - and records that C0 to the sequencer.

I am NOT trying to transpose something that's already recorded. I could just use the seq edit for that. I am trying to change a setting (which in this case would be a -12 somewhere) that affects the note value sent by the pads. Then when I'm done recording that low part, I change the setting back to 0 and I'm playing at normal pitch again, but the low notes have been recorded to the sequencer.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Pitch bend? I think you can assign a q link to it.

or is he talking about 16 level button and set it to pitch and change the range of the first note so it is different pitch range??
I think this so go to 16 level button and set it to pitch not velocity.

The pitch bend is an actual midi CC which I don't want… I want to transpose the notes entirely, same as you would do if you go to "seq edit -> transpose". But from what I can tell, "seq edit -> transpose" is only after the fact and doesn't apply to incoming notes.

transpose / octave select is used to extend the range of a midi controller. The MPC has 64 midi notes - I would expect there to be some way to trigger notes above / below its "normal" range by using a transpose setting.

Check out this midi controller. It only has two octaves, but the octave selector buttons allow you to move up & down the keyboard range. Is something like that possible w/ the MPC?

ye right at first I tought you want the exact note but anyway.. you just said it lol you need a keyboard with octave switch, than you can input notes out of range. OR check on main screen, enable MIDI and there will be note shown that you can change - it's note assigment of a program, there you can select any note for a pad but internal MPC's sampler is only from 24 (C0) to 98 (D6)

transpose is done with the banks. you have 64 notes, more than a 5 octave keyboard.

Now if you want to hold a note and switch banks and have the note from the new bank playing you have to retrigger. hook up a keyboard and you can have all pads available.
