also this is not what i would call a 'dj' set as he is more generating the music live at a more micro level vs mixing pre-made tracks.

i agree, it looks like the way he is doing it, is by bringing up on the MPC a sequence with say 6-8 tracks, each track is one "sound" or group of sounds, which is sent to a separate MPC out, and then each out to one different channel on the main mixing board. then he is able to bring on or cut the bass, hats, kick, etc. using their channel fader.
If this is how he does it, then only 4 outs in the MPC1000 as opposed to 8 in the 2000 might truly enough limit a bit the whole thing.
