House dj set with a MPC

Interesting : no technics1200, no cdjs, ... just a MPC and mixing console.

How do you figure what he is doing with his (looks like) MPC2000 all during this set ?

Could this be done with a MPC1000/JJOS2XL ??

He's basically triggering different loops/drums/synth lines that have been prepared beforehand in his studio. Which can definitely be done on a 1000 also

it does look like he is using the 8-outs heavily though, and the 1000 only has 4.
probably different sound elements to different channels on the analog mixer to tweak that way.
that is such a sick performance - thanks for bringing it back up.
also this is not what i would call a 'dj' set as he is more generating the music live at a more micro level vs mixing pre-made tracks.

Yeah I have to say in general I prefer a good DJ set to a 'live' performance but Mr. G does it really well

And once again it goes to show just how versatile the MPC is and that it's not only for hip hop (contrary to popular belief)

Are you sure? I've seen and met a lot of people using MPCs for house/techno. Especially lots of Deep House producers use the MPC.

Yeah true that, maybe an exaggeration. But I mean it is considered to be 'the' hip hop machine so some people get confused

Deep house was built on MPCs pretty much though, guys like Moodymann, Theo Parrish etc. I guess the workflow is very similar to hip hop (sampling, beats etc)

With a 1K or 2500 (JJOS)... you can use the stereo output pair as individual mono outputs. If you're not using the master effects on the entire mix this is a great way to go with a mixer + effects chain.

It looks like he brings a sequence up on the MPC, then brings in the levels on the mixer & messes around with aux sends there rather than creating sequences>songs - I guess that way he can make it more live / organic.

yeah, i was also wondering if the 4 outs of the 1000 would be enough.

i agree, it looks like the way he is doing it, is by bringing up on the MPC a sequence with say 6-8 tracks, each track is one "sound" or group of sounds, which is sent to a separate MPC out, and then each out to one different channel on the main mixing board. then he is able to bring on or cut the bass, hats, kick, etc. using their channel fader.

you might think that, but i perform this way with my xl pretty regularly and i almost always stick to 4 outputs.
sometimes i will use the next two as a stereo fx-only bus from the eb16, but that is pretty nonstandard.
also, as meearis pointed out, you can 'hack' an extra two outputs form yer 1000.
