I posted a while ago on this subject, but here again the same issue pops up....

In this new GS (6-page) thread about the "character" of the MPC3000 vs other MPCs adjectives used for MPC60/3000 were:

creamier
distinct sound
warm
funkier
lofi
beefy
crunchy
super tight timing
rock solid midi
sound magical
rocks the hardest

etc....

Of course It is being implied that the MPC1000 (and probably the 2500) pretty much failed in these areas, and that "serious" work was mostly done with the pre-numark machines...

Is this yet another example of gear-slutzing /fetishism ??

So finally my question: anybody here with a JJOS2XL/MPC1000 would switch for a MPC3000/60 if there was a suitable opportunity ??

If you think you can get self-confidence by owning MPCs that are considered better by some castes and then be recognized by them so yeah grab any opportunity

Unless feeling extremely limited by a MPC you own, gear-fetishism is a waste of time. It's better to improve the man behind the machine first.

You really have to try it to understand... I first had an MPD 32, wanted to get away from the computer, got an MPC 2500. Sold it after a year and bought an MPC 3000. It's almost 3 years since, never looked back and I'm surely not gonna sell it! Do I make better beats now? I don't know but I have alot more fun I don't know if you can call it magic, but there is something about the MPC 3000.
You can make dope beats on almost anything, just use what suits you best. Try different machines until you find the one you're comfortable with and have fun.

How else are you supposed to feel cool and accepted on a gear enthusiast forum by stating you have gear that the majority does not have?

lol there is so many ways to add character via hardware and software now days theres no reason to stress yourself with a vintage machine. MPC 1000 and 2500 are great BECAUSE they sound clean and you can process them however you like.

I just sold my MPC 2kxl.. and it seems I should have put it on ebay because the price has gone up in the last year or two...
The sequencing capabilities and full envelope of JJOS (I use 128xl) by far outweigh the cool factor of the older ones... the timing on my mpc2500 is more solid than the mpc2kxl was...
All of the models have dirty sounding digital filters (subjective) .. so no real difference there.
The only thing that I think was better on the 2kxl (with eb16 and 8 out board) was that the routing for effects was more like using an AUX send, so you could have a separate dry signal through the individual outs and a wet signal through the stereo outs.

I first bought an MPC 2500.. Then the 4K. Now I am back at a 1k with JJOS.

The classic MPCs are sonically superior IMO, and their (MIDI) timing is better, but their feature set is so far behind what JJOS offers it's not even funny.

I'd say it is most about you and your specific needs than anything. If you find yourself using only the barebones MPC functionality (ie. no JJOS-only functions/features), then an OG MPC might be for you. Personally, for my needs, the 1K with JJOS is the one. If I want a vibey sample playback tone, I take out my volca sample/4K or buy a Boss SP-202. If I want a solid clock, I use a solid MIDI clock gen and slave the 1K to it. Best portable footprint. Best connectivity for file transfers. Just enough audio & MIDI I/O to get by with.

Yeah but do you want to pay over a thousand bucks for top of the line clock generator?

No way. I wouldn't trade my 1000 with OS2XL for any of those other machines. It seems like every time I spend serious time with OS2XL, I learn more about what it is capable of and what a "Jenius" JJ really is.

Current favorite features--

--Assigning Program Changes & CC Messages to Pads in the P.STATS screen
--Drawing CC message Automation in MIDI mode
--Adjusting timing & velocity in loop edit mode

Used 60 for years once I got the 1000 with JJ OS (2006) I just used the 60 sparingly. I love the MOC format and do a lot of tracks just on the 1000. The 60 required more other gear to do anything remotely like the JJ OS. I used t use it with an S6000, but it would **** with me when I'd hit 16 levels and it wouldn't work. I could get it t work, but it wasn't ideal. The 1000 with is the 60 and 6000 fused into the remote! In my mind, could be better, on the 4000 tip but I prefer the jj os interface.

They're all dream machines and everyone that notices thinks they've discovered the truth instead of a truth. The 60 was amazing, but the 1000 is infinite.

All those other machines are good but the 1000 is like a Swiss Army knife and to be sounds just as good or better than all the ones I mentioned.

Also to mention I've owned 2 Mpc 2000 classics and 2 Mpc 2500.

The Mpc 1000 is the best Mpc ever made.

there you have it... just gotta keep it real. this man has owned all of them and has to admit.. the 1000.. although we all know about the "numark" situation.. is a true BEAST with the JJ os's.. as far as MPC's go. no one can take away from the 3k but don't get caught up on the sonic difference or that bull crap about timing... roger linn said himself there's nothing special to it.. IMO the reason we consider the 3000 "timing/swing/midi" superior is because you chopped the sounds by EAR so naturally those "dilla" beats or whatever on the 3000 have crazy swing because he made the chops with his mind/ears not with visual aid... so lets just keep it real! lol. peace y'all.

and if i could add my two cents... never got a chance to try a 3k, (i do have an s3000 collecting dust for what its worth) but the 1k with jj os is so damn incredible as a starting point to "mold clay" and get my beats popping... everything i create starts there and gets dumped to daw thru midi... its just awesome. it gives me that edge over making music strictly on a laptop... suuure i wouldn't mind 8 individual outputs instead of 6... i wouldn't mind more than 2 midi in and outs... etc.. but man.. neever had a problem or a thought about the timing or swing or anything man.. can't stress this enough... ITS THE MAN BEHIND THE MACHINE.. if your mpc 1000 sound like boo boo... its YOU! if you can't get crazy swing or whatever on a 1000.. the 3000 most likely will not help you. not to mention.. the size is perfect... you can take it anywhere damn near... i've owned probably 4 mpc1000s and 2 2500's... right now i've got one mpc1k and i couldn't be happier (wouldn't mind a second one one day..) cheers!
