Samples playback muffled during song, but not sequence HELP

Black MPC 1000 running jjos2xl. Having problems with sample playback during sequences put together into a song. It almost sounds as though the upper frequencies are being cut, or that the samples in question are being muffled. Samples will play incorrectly when running through the song, but when the song is stopped and then started at said sequence, the samples play normally. They have effects on them but I’ve tried taking them off and they still play incorrectly when triggered in the song. They play normally when triggered manually, solo. I’m at a total loss here please help… Has anybody run into anything like this before?
