JJOS2XL mpc1000 midi record from synth help

Hi,
Im trying to record a synth midi pattern into the mpc so i can save the project to later play in a live style setting.
Can someone run through the settings for me every time i try to record the mpc freezes or the synth notes just continue to play?
I have mpc1000
mpc midi out> to synth In (se02)
Synth Midi out> to mpc In

Multi timbre: Off?
active track recieve: All?
Soft Thru : As Track?
sequence change : Off?
Midi out after touch: No?

What am i doing wrong? if i run just midi out to midi in synth it sequences just fine.

Ok.
So last night i tried to maybe just record the synth in. Midi out from synth to midi in MPC.
Recorded the the midi notes. Then i pulled the plug and switched it around for play back Mpc midi out to Midi in synth. worked perfect. Is this normal practice???
