I was under the assumption that they were the same thing but it appears that they are not.

I know that direct record allows you to record from the input onto a track while also saving the recorded sound to a pad.

What does input thru do? Just allow you to sample stuff while the sequence is playing but not directly to a track? Let me know. Thanks.

The input thru allows you to use the inputs to play thru the mpc, but not record into...Technically you could still do this in record mode, but now you are able to do this while a sequence is playin...
